Today we’d like to introduce you to Aubrey Golke
Hi Aubrey, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
During Covid I developed a new found hobby of baking bread. I watched a dozen youtube videos on how to make bread and I learned that sourdough is the healthiest bread out there.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I was overwhelmed by the support in my community. There are times that I can’t keep up with the demands. Making sourdough is a 2 day process and it’s time consuming. I have to manage my time well especially with having a toddler.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have always loved baking and cooking. I love to share my food, I’m a Filipino and that’s what we’re know for.
I’m always a hard worker, ever since I moved in the US I worked at various places, hotels and retail jobs. 2020 when I learned to bake sourdough bread. Every time i bake, it’s only for my friends and family . Last year I muster up the courage to start selling my bread through facebook market. I got a couple customers and my husband gave me an idea to post my bread in our community group with 14k members. That time I got really good response. I was then looking for local farmer’s market in my area. August 2023 was my first market, i brought 24 loaves with me and they were all gone in 1hr. I started getting more and more orders. I offer various sourdough flavors and I’m very proud to incorporate a Filipino favorite Ube sourdough. From baking 20 loaves in 1 week to sometimes baking 170 loaves. I owe it to my husband who helps me in my market and takes care of our daughter when i have to be in the kitchen for 10+ hrs. I owe it to my customers who absolutely appreciates and love my bread.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I was blessed to have the opportunity to cultivate my passion in life (baking sourdough bread) and to grow our little family (having a covid baby)
