Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlie Hoffman.
Hi Charlie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Before I could talk, I pointed to the television and with very little words, asked my mom to be in the tv… of course that didn’t make any sense. I was really asking to be an actor on the screen in the shows that I loved the most. God put the love of performing in my heart at a very young age. From there, I saw my twin sister, Mary Cate Hoffman, break into competition dancing, and she was absolutely incredible on the stage. I followed her lead and dove into the theatre world. She and I discovered that we had the same love for performing, and we have been performing together ever since. Through the kindness of others, we were brought into the film world. We started out in commercials and public service announcements all around the 757. At 12 years old, we moved out to California at months at a time. This caused my sister and I to begin our schooling online. Through incredibly hard work, strong faith, and numerous blessings we began acting in student films, short films, and feature films! Following God’s lead, we have travelled to different projects all over the country in new and exciting places. We travelled between New York, California, and Georgia by car, trains, and planes! Eventually, several cities in the United States began to feel like home. All while attending college online with Liberty University, we have travelled and worked all over. We made quick friends with so many wonderful people, and we are truly grateful for every experience. We stay close with our friends and family through visits and our social media pages. From @hoffmantwinsofficial on Instagram to @Marycatehoffman and @charliehoffman757 on TikTok, we are always actively keeping in touch with those we love. We are so excited to see where we go from here. I would love to encourage any kid with a passion in their heart for something to follow it. I believe through immense faith, extremely hard work, and a kind heart you will accomplish anything you are meant to. May God be with you and bless you on all of your exciting journeys!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Absolutely not by any means, but every trouble I faced I brought to God, and He helped me through it. My sister and I had to miss out on childhood things such as birthday parties, sleepovers, and quality time with friends. Looking back, I have no regrets, as I know in my heart that we have followed God’s plan for us. It was incredibly hard as a child and teen to miss opportunities to show your love for your friends and family. Nothing will ever go according to our plan, but it is in His hands, and His plan is better than mine could ever dream of being. I’d love to encourage kids and adults seeking these opportunities to take comfort in knowing that when you miss opportunities, and they go to other people, those opportunities were always meant for them. There are opportunities and blessings waiting around the corner for you as well. Stay kind through the hard times and love others. Continue to work hard and stay in your faith. You will accomplish your full potential and everything you’ve dreamed of.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a triple threat on stage and screen, as well as a writer and director. I feel incredibly blessed to have known from a young age what I love to do and where my gifts are. I don’t think I’m any different than others or set apart in any way. I suppose maybe my faith gives me a perspective that is different than some others. I think a lot of people deal with similar struggles, all of us on the same emotional rollercoaster of life. We are all insanely imperfect but want to do the right thing and through various situations, we all sin, mess up and fall short of God’s glory. I just feel blessed to have the relationship that I have with Jesus; without him, I would be totally and completely lost in this world. By no means am I an example of a “great Christian” as I truly believe I am imperfect and that is why I have faith in Jesus to save me. I struggle and grow each and every day in my relationship with God. I believe people should seek examples in Jesus rather than the incredibly imperfect people that follow him, as it was our choice to bring sin into this world, and we will never match His perfect example. Through Jesus’ sacrifice, I find the strength to carry on, and through Him, I am able to find love, forgiveness, and hope. I believe wholeheartedly that my relationship with Jesus why I am where I am today. My mom, Elizabeth Hoffman, sacrificed so much and loved so selflessly in order to accomplish all that we have. Traveling hundreds of miles from home and devoting time and faith to God and family, she made all of this possible. Elizabeth Hoffman is an incredible manager and my sister and I are so blessed to have her professionally and personally. My dad, Howard Hoffman, was also incredibly encouraging and had faith in us to accomplish all we have as a family. I had an incredible time doing theatre in Norfolk, Virginia with Hugh Copeland and The Hurrah Players. I learned so much under his care and guidance. He helped me and continues to help me along with so many others. Through many dance lessons and the kindness of Jim and Linda Haas we grew as dancers at the Academy of Dance in Newport News, Virginia. Through their Destination Broadway programs with their daughter and Broadway star, Tiffany Haas, we made connections with incredibly talented Broadway performers and creatives. At Destination Broadway we had the opportunity to meet and work with Michael Rafter and he helped us hone our crafts. He was incredibly hardworking, talented, and encouraging. Many stopped in to teach and encourage us, such as Broadway star Sutton Foster. As we gained confidence in singing, we were extremely blessed to land Mary Matthews as a vocal coach. Through her help, we developed our voices in a strong and healthy way. This brought us to perform confidently in auditions and musicals throughout the 757 and even New York City. This lead us into singing in chorus at our school with Robin Steinberger at its helm and the wonderful opportunity of performing alongside Kenny Rogers and Linda Davis on their concert tour. I’d like to thank Angie Athayde Stevens for offering her home and friendship to us along our journey. This lead us out to California and changed our lives forever in the best possible way. Some of my favorite film projects include Skinny Ghost, written and directed by Nicolas Curcio, my sister and I had so much fun working with such a kind, talented and professional man. Together we went to the Beverly Hills Film Festival and saw Skinny Ghost on the big screen at the TCL Chinese Theatres. I really enjoyed working on Needs, written by Or Mash, Ophir Mash, and Natalia Montecinos and directed by Natalie Montecinos. Their set was filled with determination and love for the art of comedy. The pilot for Needs performed incredibly well at film festivals across the country and, eventually, the world. Jockstraps, a comedy pilot written by Jonathon Kane, Luke Guertler, and Sam Remington, was another one of my favorite comedy pilots that had tremendous success. I loved my time on that set with Director Brittany Villars. There are so many more talented creatives to name that I don’t believe I could fit on a page. I want to give a HUGE thank you to the people above. Thank you to all of the other incredible people that went unnamed, from in front of the camera and behind it. I truly feel blessed to have you all as my friends and coworkers. I would also to thank everyone from outside of the film business, from other means of work and my personal life. I am so grateful to everyone I have met in my life. From strangers to enemies to friends and family. I am incredibly blessed to have met and been shaped by you. I love you all of you every single one, may God bless you all.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My faith matter most out of all things in my life. Without my faith, I do not believe I would have the tools of strength, wisdom, and love. These tools allow me to have all of the people that I have in my life. God gives me the strength to accomplish anything, and without my faith, I believe I wouldn’t be anything at all. Whether I choose to believe or not, He is there and has a plan for everything and everyone. I believe it would be the highest form of hatred and disrespect to stray from that plan in any way, shape, or form. I would have nothing and be nothing without Him.
