Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlie’s Poolhouse
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Charlie’s Poolhouse is a high school project of me and my best friend, Gil Sheppard. We initially started the band just writing pop songs, and playing local restaurants. Our graduating year, we played our first DIY show, so we pretty much immediately fell in love with the DIY scene. So when we hit college, we both just hit the ground running with just us, our bassist Mary Parker, and our drummer Jacob Talevski, playing shows in Savannah pretty much wherever we can, just at local houses and cool spots pretty much. We’ve released a couple EP’s from our songs back in high school, but lately we’ve been getting prepped to record our first album, which has a bit of a heavier sound compared to our work we’ve released.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all, working and being in school while being in a band while trying to also afford band and life stuff is pretty hard. There’s also some shows we’ve done that just haven’t sold at all! But we all really love doing it, and we don’t really care at the end of the day as long as we get to keep doing our thing.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are a pop driven shoegaze band that plays DIY shows in Savannah, and hopefully more places soon. We are most known for our most recent release “”epitaphs”. We are probably most proud of the songs we have on the way at the moment, and I think our songwriting abilities shine through a lot more on these new tracks.!
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Cameron Harrison from the local band FARSEEK was a huge mentor for me coming into the DIY scene, and mainly just taught us to put the art first, and not to rush tracks our too much, and just take our time with it.
Also Parker Brownley is our current bassist and he freaking rocks.
