Daily Inspiration: Meet Cindy Dodson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Dodson.

Hi Cindy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Relocated from Washington DC with my husband (retired US Capitol Police officer) while 6 months pregnant, with a 3 year old on Dec. 1st 2018. We Had to hit the ground running to open an Early Head Start in 3 weeks.
At that time I knew little to nothing about running a preschool, but by the grace shown to me and the Knowledge of those that came before me I came to realize my life’s mission, and have not stopped working for the children in my care for close to 7 years.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not a smooth road, but definitely a great ride! There are struggles and challenges but what I now know for sure is that all of our troubles are temporary. We always find hope and we keep going forward.

Struggles: The constant pressure of staffing, limited resources for children with disabilities, parent involvement, finding paths to coping, social/emotional skills for children who truly need help beyond my business hours.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Owner/Director

I would like to think that I serve as an “all involved” person in my center. I am here to support and learn the children. To be of service and create safe spaces for all.
To be a point of view, a leader and also a sound board for any parent who needs me. I’m proud of my involvement and how much I devote to the emotional wellbeing of the children in my center. I am proud of our commitment to building a stronger community and productive environments for the children and their families.
Our level of care and understanding for an all inclusive and unconditional center sets me/us apart. Families know they can count on us, we are an unconditional thread through and through.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
This industry will continue to grow, we are vital to the success and growth of our community and surrounding areas.

The industry, I hope shifts into more inclusive environments. We should be looking to include more behavior and coping skills in order to help children and families transition into Elementary schools. .
