Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Nein
Hi Courtney, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Rhode Island but then moved around many times in my life, my journey has been shaped by resilience, growth, and a commitment to making an impact. Early in life my parents instilled the importance of giving back, value on experiences and relationships above things, and my dad modeled entrepreneurship and perseverance through different business ventures.
I have walked through the highs and lows of life, from facing early struggles with self-image and rebellious times, my daughter being born with a life threatening congenital heart disease, two divorces and much more along the way. I’ve come to value authenticity, connection, and truly getting to know peoples stories and what makes them who they are.
My path in the work world is extremely diverse. I started working part time at 14 years old a Papa John’s and immediately got addicted to the exchange of work for money. From then on I have always held at least one job and usually more than one. My path to finding my way in my career has been pretty diverse, bartending, working as crew on yachts, in my 20’s I became a licensed financial advisor, I worked in the yachting industry in customers service and management for years. My daughter was born in 2008 when the market was crashing and no one was needing high end yachts, I was laid off at the same time she was diagnosed with Tetrology of Fallot and we were told would need open heart surgery in her first months of life to survive. I shifted gears, it was before Obamacare and a forever condition, to find a job that had health insurance and with a rocky marriage some stability. I went back to school and got my masters degree in early education at Georgia Southern and started a new career path in teaching elementary school.
My first ex husband left when Avery, my daughter was 2 1/2 years old and my son, Owen was 2 months old. He was a yacht captain at the time and literally and figuratively sailed off for good. I continued teaching and blowing through savings I had from smart saving/investing in my 20’s until that was depleted. A teaching salary wasn’t cutting it and child support had stopped months ago so I invested $99 in a network marketing company with skincare I was using that I really did love. I couldn’t believe the return of investment and was matching my teaching take home check within 6 months. For over a decade, I’ve thrived in network marketing, leading teams of over 10,000 and achieving significant success, including becoming a million-dollar earner and generating millions in sales monthly.
That has been an amazing journey but I knew in my heart I was meant for more in terms of making an impact and truly rippling something that could be life changing to women. That is why a couple months ago, my business partner, Lauren Santagate, and I launched Women’s Wealth Society. This is an entire movement around women being empowered in financial literacy, saving and investing, truly digging into what “wealth” really is and so much more. We are both busy moms and both have helped and seen so many women make money but then not know how to be good stewards of it and want to help bridge that gap. We believe in the power of women coming together as a powerhouse and all rise together.
As a single mom of three children—each of whom has added profound meaning and strength to my life—I understand the complexities of balancing personal growth with raising a family. My entrepreneurial journey has been fueled by a passion for personal development, community service, and lifting others as I climb.
Active in fitness, a lover of travel, and driven by a gratitude-centered approach to life, I bring both determination and joy to my work and relationships. My hope is to inspire others, especially women, to embrace the challenges that shape them, pursue their dreams with vigor, and live fully and boldly.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all, although the more I have stumbled or fallen and gotten back, the smoother it seems.
Most recently my entire income crumbled from making over $20,000 a month to less than $5,000 a month in just 2 months which then completely went away a couple months later. This happened when ownership and the compensation plan in the network marketing company I was a part of made an announcement to change the structure that was put into place within a couple weeks. I found this out after missing a last minute zoom with the founders of the brand, of which was very close to as one of the top 3 leaders in the company. I was missing that zoom as I was in the administration office at the school of the my 13yr old son who was turning himself in for being involved in bad decisions at school which led to being suspended. Hard on top of hard. Over the next couple weeks knowing that everything was going to crumble fast, and I am the CEO of my own S-corp based on this income, I was forced to figure out a path forward- by myself as a single mom. I have my daughter full time and my 2 sons 80% of the time. In the next couple months we found a house to move into, put our house up for sale, had to give up our adopted dog who started getting fear aggression with all the change and became a threat to all the kids running around, finished getting licensed in the family financial coaching program I was in the middle of, and researched which brand would be one I could get behind to start the build all over again. A lot of decisions on the go, a lot of pushing through days I felt so overwhelmed I didn’t want to get out of bed, physically, mentally and emotionally drained with so much change and loss all at once.
Another struggle was my first marriage falling apart. He was an addict and going through that was a lonely and really traumatic journey. My pregnancy with Owen, my now 14yr old was very lonely and hard as he was mostly checked out by then. I was working 3 jobs and finishing my masters degree while not knowing he was not actually working but spending his days in an empty condo drinking and smoking weed. When I eventually told him we needed to separate and he needed to work on himself, he just left for good. My kids were 2 and 2months old and I was drowning in an emotional spiral but also needing to keep it together to provide for the kids. Thankfully I had my parents and sister close by and started to meet some good friends that all became my village. I was in survival mode for a couple years though for sure and just trying to get through each day doing my best. There are so many other hards in that time but that is the overall.
When Avery was born and we found out she had TOF and we would have to watch her deteriorate for the first months of her life to get her weight up as much as we could to have major open heart surgery. Handing her over to the doctors at 2 months old wondering if I would ever hold her again and waiting those hours was terrifying.
I have many more but those are a few- happy to expand on them too.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I talked of my career path in one of the other questions pretty extensively.
Currently my passion project is for sure Women’s Wealth Society. We are at the very beginning but that will be our legacy brand and what we want to be known for. I would even venture to say that I am most proud in my career of us launching our community and the first retreat that we hosted a couple weeks ago. Before this, I would say I was most proud of the team and culture/community that I built in my previous company truly the heart of the brand. The community was so powerful because of the abundant and servant leadership that rippled throughout the brand as it was being built. That was ripped away because we didn’t own it. Now it is time to rebuild the same community with even more impact because of the pain point it will solve for women.
I specialize in servant leadership, truly bringing people together, showing women their true superpower is themselves and helping to coach them through finding that and unleashing their inner child. I have had my run of hard in my life for sure and I use that to get vulnerable, build trust and really connect with people to form deep relationships. I am known for having a gratitude attitude, for sure serving others and leading by example in the way I show up and the way I give.
I am most proud of my journey as a mother and overcoming adversity with a positive attitude. I KNOW I am a kick ass mom and raising really amazing kids. They are all kind, care about others deeply, they are great friends, give back in the community, have good work ethic, and are HAPPY! My kids thriving is what I am most proud of and knowing that it is because of me truly making them a priority and using the resources and village around me to do so.
What sets me apart from others is my ability to truly look for the best in every situation, that I am not afraid to try and fail, I don’t worry and I don’t overthink- I just get out and do it. I wake up everyday with the mindset that this could be my last day and I try to live it out and truly take advantage of every bit of each day. I LOVE to learn about people and their stories. I show up big for my friends, my community, my kids school, and my family. I want to be remembered as someone that made a difference in this world.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I believe looking for the positive in every situation is probably most important. That along with always plugging into personal and business development seeking out new opportunities to learn and grow.
