Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Burton.
Emily, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up being the party planner for my friends group and community, so I’ve always loved planning and designing a cohesive party or space…one that leaves a lasting impression for months and years to come.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. I think that’s the biggest misconception in our industry. Viewers only really get to experience or see beautiful social media images. Some of the struggles I have personally and initially faced have been my own friends and family questioning my abilities to run a business, and secondly one of the hardest struggles for not just me, but most of us in the industry was “The year of Covid” trying to run a business, while being a new mother and wondering the state of the world and the constant change that were were undergoing as well as all of the unknowns. Most clients during COVID were along with us wading through uncharted territory. We dealt with heightened emotions and tried our best to be understanding, but also needed grace as we had never walked through this type of pandemic before. The events industry affected our community as a whole.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am equal parts designer and planner. From a very early age, I learned that design is every part of who God made me to be. As long as I can remember I have always walked into a room, analyzed a space, place or setting, to see what could be better from a design, color and functioning and logistical perspective.
Some of my greatest accomplishments that I am most proud of have been working with in and with some of the most influential people in their industries, but my greatest accomplishment is being a mother, to my beautiful daughter, Avalon, while being able to do what I love.
Some of the most exciting clients and projects I have been blessed to work with and on have been:
New York Fashion Week
LA Fashion Week
Miami Swim Week
Celebrities we’ve worked with: Steel Lafferty, David Tutera, Cynthia Bailey, Noelle Robinson, Machine Gun Kelly, President Trumps Cabinet Members
I think what sets me apart from others is my background in both floral and interior design, and the experiences through trial, error and hardships that I have worked in along the way. My businesses wasn’t handed to me or politically given to me, it’s been a business that has been driven out of passion for well designed events and parties, through my very own disappointment as a bride years ago.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
It’s hard to tell, the event industry is always changing and I’m even caught by surprise from year to year. But everything in life comes full circle, so I anticipate the going trend for the next couple of years to be smaller, more intimate weddings and events but still very much dialed into design, overall client and guest experiences being the focus.
