Daily Inspiration: Meet Kenya Anderson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenya Anderson.

Hi Kenya , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Pastoral counseling and solution is a faith-based counseling service that serves individuals struggling with grief and loss of any kind. We offer counseling services for married couples, students, and service members. Etc. The idea of starting a faith counseling service started during the pandemic. I have been a Chaplain for over nine years and was working in the hospital when COVID-19 entered our world. I saw many people lose hope, faith, and trust in God as they watched their loved ones die. I was always the one people would call on for hope, but during that time, people became hopeless, and I decided to extend my service.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not been a smooth road, but it is my calling. .I am a native of Savannah who just moved back home a year ago to take care of my elderly stepdad. I am also an Army Chaplain. I joined the Army National Guard at the age of 47 with no prior military experience. I also dropped out of school in the 6th grade at the age of 14. I then moved in with my grandmother. I started my life over at the age of 33 after asking God my purpose for life. I went on to earn a BS in psychology and then a Master’s in Divinity. The road has not been easy, but with God, all things are possible.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Chaplain in the Army National Guard and a hospice chaplain. Before becoming an Army Chaplain, I had worked in many areas of Chaplaincy, from hospitals, hospice, prisons, and mental health, Etc. I consider myself a caregiver for the soul. I am an ordained minister but most of my service is outside of the church walls. I am most proud of my children. I am proud that I get to care for our soldiers and their families and the call on my life. I believe we are all set apart we just have to discover how and why. We are set apart to serve others which should connect us.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory was when I stayed with my grandmother who owned her own homeless shelter. Although I was a dropout and it seemed like all my friends were passing me by, I learned how to serve, and play. I learned that my life was not my own at an early age. I learned that living for God meant caring for others. I learned balance. I learned not to be afraid that the outcome has already been settled, and it’s good.
