Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Hiers.
Hi Kyle, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Honestly, KCutz started because I hit a wall. I was stuck at a job where I couldn’t move up, so I stepped away and worked odd jobs for a year, just trying to figure out my next move. A couple of friends kept telling me to try barbering, so I grabbed a $20 pair of Conair clippers from Walmart, had people come over with the bribe of free beer, and started cutting in my kitchen. That’s when I realized I actually loved the craft. The very next week, I signed up for barber school.
From there, it was all about sacrifice and grind. I apprenticed while in school, worked overnight shifts at a gym just to make it through, and kept learning from barbers I looked up to like S. Craft Blends and It’s Marvy Marv. When the pandemic hit, I lost my job, but I never stopped pushing to finish school and invest in my education.
I launched KCutz officially in 2020 and started showing up at barber shows to learn from the best. But more than just cutting hair, I wanted to give back. That’s why I started the KCutz Annual Christmas Community Giveback — offering free cuts for kids, toys, raffles, and partnering with teams like the Georgia Bulldogs, Savannah Bananas, and Jacksonville Jaguars to raise money for families in need.
Since then, the journey’s been about growth and relationships. I closed my private studio earlier this year and joined Raw Cuts Barbershop in Jacksonville with Angel Raws — a leader and mentor I respect. Later, I decided to come back home for my family and to get back closer to my clients, so I stepped into the role of Shop Manager at Elegance and Style Barber Lounge. I have to give Thanks to the guidance and opportunities that were given from mentors like Angel Raws and Randyn Anderson. I’m blessed to now lead a growing shop while still building KCutz as a brand.
Looking forward, my vision is simple: legacy and impact. I want to show people — especially coming from a small town like me — that you can do big things without getting caught up in the wrong path. Along the way I’ve been honored as a 5-time Barber Grammy Nominee, 2023 Finalist for Positive Influencer of the Year, and voted Best of Georgia in 2023 and 2024, with another nomination this year. But awards aside, it’s about using my platform to inspire, educate, and give back. That’s why I’m excited about working with brands like Father’s Grooming Co now, and eventually stepping more into education to push this industry forward.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of my biggest obstacles was going through barber school during the pandemic. We had no live people to practice on, and let’s face it — you’re going to make mistakes when you’re learning. Normally, you get that out of the way in school, but for me it happened in the shop, which made the learning curve a lot tougher.
Then there was the first shop I started at. Leadership just wasn’t there — it was all glitz and glam, and everyone was out for themselves. Any time I asked for guidance, I got hit with ‘figure it out.’ So that’s what I did. I carved out my own lane in men’s grooming and focused on offering luxury services, even in a small town where there’s often more drama and competition than collaboration.
There were definitely times I thought about giving it all up. I got asked to leave my first salon because I spoke up. Same thing happened at another spot. Even when I opened my private studio, it was chaos at times. But the common thread was this: people saw I was growing and doing something they weren’t, especially with my community giveback event. That event wasn’t about recognition, it was about bringing people together — but it ended up becoming one of the things that set me apart.
Looking back, those struggles shaped me. They gave me fuel. If I hadn’t gone through all that, I don’t think I’d be where I’m at today.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At the core, I’m a men’s grooming specialist. I focus on delivering precise, luxury services that go beyond just a haircut — it’s an experience. From the way I approach a fade, to beard work, to the overall attention to detail, I want every client to walk out not just looking better, but feeling more confident.
I think what I’m most proud of is the KCutz Annual Christmas Community Giveback. Cutting hair is what I do, but giving back is who I am. Being able to use my skills and my platform to serve kids and families in my community — and to partner with organizations like the Georgia Bulldogs, Savannah Bananas, and Jacksonville Jaguars — that’s bigger than me. That’s legacy work.
What sets me apart is consistency, authenticity, and the vision I carry. I’ve been honored to be a 5-time Barber Grammy Nominee, a finalist for Positive Influencer of the Year, and voted Best of Georgia two years running, but I don’t measure myself by trophies. I measure it by the impact I leave on clients, my community, and the barbers coming up behind me.
At the end of the day, I’m not just cutting hair — I’m building a brand, a culture, and hopefully a legacy that shows people from small towns like mine that you can make it big, and you can do it the right way.
How do you think about happiness?
I’m happiest when my work helps someone feel better about themselves. Whether it’s a fresh cut that changes a client’s whole week or mentoring a young barber at a giveback event — that’s my fuel. Purpose, people, and seeing real change — that’s what I chase.
