Daily Inspiration: Meet Takiya Sequoyah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Takiya Sequoyah.

Hi Takiya, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I discovered my purpose during the most trying time of my life.

It was while serving a 10-year prison sentence in three different Georgia state prisons. In that Valley of the Shadow of Death experience, I realized that if I had survived all the traumas, pain, failures, and mistakes in my life then God had a greater purpose for me and that I was destined for greatness.

My life shifted when I understood my purpose. Bound by four walls in a prison cell, I began to dream, hope, and heal. There was nothing or no one able to hinder me because I realized that I had an assignment. With a resume as a teen mom, convicted felon, high school dropout, and survivor, I decided to create a platform using my testimony and experiences to ignite purpose into the lives of others.

I didn’t wait for anyone to sign off on my idea or support my vision., or for my life to fit into a perfect box. As a spiritual being, I had received my Yes from God and that was enough. I had the heart, compassion, and desire to make a difference in my community.

In 2020, a friend and I hosted our first Youth event in Savannah, GA that was self-funded. Being able to pour into the lives of our youth was the most remarkable experience. It was rewarding to hear young Teen Queens expose layers of hurt and insecurities and receive seeds of healing and inspiration. At that moment, I knew that all of my suffering was worth it. Everything that I had experienced prepared me for that very moment.

I later became a committee member for a program called ARCs, the Mayor initiative program. ARC provided me the opportunity to be able to glean from so many intelligent and influential men and women in Savannah, such as Dr. Maxine Bryant, Fredric Green, and Katina Wheeler. In 2021, I was invited to speak at the When is The Debt Paid conference at Georgia Southern University. I was also interviewed and featured in the Savannah Morning news.

I have two businesses. I am the owner of Enviro Purity LLC. An Electrostatic Disinfecting company. I’m also the owner of Takiya Sequoyah LLC, where I can be booked for speaking engagements and mentor services. I also offer ministry and organization building services to help those with a desire to expand their vision to reach a larger audience.

This upcoming June, I will be having a Youth Enrichment Seminar, in Atlanta, that has been designed to ensure the success of our youth this summer. At this event, I will be educating the youth on how to fill out job applications, interview prep, and resume writing mixed with food, fun, and laughter.

This is just the beginning! I am excited about what God has planned for me next.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Every road has either potholes, speed bumps, or stop signs. My journey has definitely not been easy. There were moments when I doubted myself or I sought acceptance and validation from Leaders I looked up to… women who were already game changers and making their mark.

But what I’ve discovered is that not every obstacle was out to destroy me. Those moments of despair never lasted long because I understood my greatness within even if no one else did. Many of those moments were used to develop my character.

During prison, I lost everything. The past four years have been me rebuilding. I’ve recently lost my son, but being a single mother and a mom who just buried her child made me more resilient, tenacious, and determined.

It added more depth to my testimony. I’m the type of person who finds purpose in everything!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As mentioned before, I am a motivational speaker and youth mentor. I wear so many hats. Takiya Sequoyah LLC is my business where I offer services to improve the community.

I advocate on the behalf of gun violence. I provide coaching, resources, and mentorship to single mothers. I provide community outreach services. I recently sponsored Barred Business of Atlanta. Both my companies have donated hygiene supplies and clothing to women who will be bonded out of jail on Mothers Day through this organization.

I am also the owner of Enviro Purity, an Electrostatic Disinfecting company servicing Atlanta and Savannah. Enviro Purity specializes in combating bacteria and viruses. We believe that healthy homes and workplaces create healthy communities.

What sets me apart from others is my strength and my ability to find purpose in every situation. It takes a supernatural kind of strength when you can lose a child to death or sit in prison yet still pour into the lives of others. Still find a reason to smile. To see the good in every situation.

What I want people to know is that my strength lies in my faith. My faith is tied to my purpose. And once you understand your purpose, Nothing will be able to stop you.

What does success mean to you?
True success does not lie in accolades or personal achievements. True success is becoming the best version of yourself, free of bondage. It is purposeful and impactful.
