Today we’d like to introduce you to Teresa Yeung.

Teresa Yeung

Hi Teresa, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
My life is continually filled with joy and laughter. To preserve these beautiful moments, I’ve embarked on a journey to capture them through the art of drawing. Life itself serves as my endless source of inspiration, allowing me to breathe life into the stories in my mind, using my hands as the storyteller. This realization has ignited a strong determination within me to be a dedicated storyteller, weaving life and fantasy into the pages of books.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest challenge for me is embracing every opportunity that comes my way. When I was small, I was rather passive and didn’t envision a future as an artist. I assumed I would attend a local school and pursue a conventional career. My aspirations were simple, and my love for drawing was straightforward. However, after years of dedicated study in the field of art, I can now affirm the importance of dreaming big and reaching out to grasp opportunities.

Expressing myself through drawing has always come naturally to me; exposing myself to the world is a struggle due to my introverted nature. It remains a personal challenge, but I’ve begun to push myself beyond my comfort zone. I’ve found the courage to engage in conversations, express myself among others, and share my art with the world. The key lesson I’ve learned is to trust in myself; I can do it.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a professional illustrator, my passion lies in creating book illustrations and drawing comics. My stories capture everyday moments, inspiring people to find utopia in life’s joy, sorrow, pleasure, and adventure. I aspire to infuse my illustrations with vibrant colors, positivity, humor, and a deep appreciation for life to brighten our daily experiences. Additionally, I excel in character, prop, and environment design for games and animations.

Having grown up in the culturally diverse melting pot of Hong Kong, I have a profound love for this small yet enchanting city. My work is heavily influenced by Japanese pop culture and traditional art, often incorporating Ukiyo-e and sequential art techniques. I hope that my unique and soothing illustrations can inspire you to see life as an exciting adventure in a fresh and invigorating way.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up in a bustling family of six, my home was always brimming with activity, often noisy but undeniably heartwarming. I’m deeply grateful to my parents for their love and support, enabling me to pursue my dreams as an artist. Sharing this creative journey with my twin sister has been a lifelong dream of ours – setting up a studio, crafting stories, and drawing together. Our companionship, mutual inspiration, and influence have played a significant role in shaping who I am today.

Beyond creating captivating stories, I find joy in enhancing life’s experiences. In my free time, I indulge in watching movies, cooking, and playing the piano. Japan holds a special place in my heart, and I can’t get enough of its beauty. I hope to visit Japan, savor its four seasons, indulge in hot springs, and revel in its cuisine.
