Hi Donna, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have had a career in corporate America for over 20 years, primarily working in strategic leadership, business development, and marketing executive roles; many people believe the leadership titles, six-figure salary, and prestige establish one’s success. I enjoyed, learned, and grateful for what I now consider my corporate pathway career. The year 2020 had several unpredictable, unprecedented, unexpected, and undesirable changes in my professional career as well as personal wellness with the public health crisis COVID-19 death rates at record heights. Little did I know God was preparing me for the next successful journey in my life. The trail led to new ventures, including begin a doctoral program, run for a local political office, launch a neighborhood association, and advocate for those underserved or overlooked. In early 2022, I was able to fight through the fear of cutting the corporate job cord to work solely on building my consulting firm, D. Williams Consulting, LLC, where we “Reposition Futures.” It is my belief that we determine success for ourselves, Success is determined only by the individual’s distinction. D. Williams Consulting, LLC, launched in 2019, now is a GDOT-certified DBE company, MWBE, and MBE able to bid on local, state, and federal contracts. D. Williams Consulting, LLC is a service provider for the Small Business Association Resource Center and have an array of business clientele.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I enjoy a quote by Cicely Tyson which says, “Challenges make you discover things about yourself that you never really knew.” I enjoy networking and meeting other small business owners and have not met one who has not experienced challenges; I am not an exception. I have incurred multiple challenges, from overcoming the fear of failure, remaining true to my business values & mission to my most recent challenge of acquiring staff support. D. Williams Consulting, LLC is a business service provider for the Small Business Resource Center, gains clients from networking promotion efforts, and as a DBE/MWBE/MBE, can bid on local, state, and federal contracts; therefore, business growth is good. The challenge is now finding staff that can support the company’s growth for a company that cannot currently compete with compensation and benefit plans of larger firms. I am a firm believer that challenges come to make us greater; it is up to us to rise or fall. I created my acronym of inspiration utilizing my name, D.O.N.N.A. (Daring Optimistic, Never-failing, Noble, Ardent). D.O.N.N.A. is my reminder that despite bumps in the road to boldly & confidently step up, tackle the issue, and failure is not an option; I can resolve it gracefully and do so with enthusiasm. That said, I am currently utilizing 1099 staff and seeking partnerships with universities whose students need internships.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
There are quite a few things that make me happy, to name a few; my family’s well-being, spending time with friends & family, a good piece of homemade pound cake “without the calories,” and, of course, helping others. People often say to me, “Donna, you are everywhere, you’re always helping in the community, etc. ” I truly have a passion to be of service to others, whether it is work or volunteer. My consulting firm’s goal is to support those small-midsized businesses and entrepreneurs that need leadership, self-development, team building, business development, and/or other business services for their teams but do not have the large budgets corporations have to grow. D. Williams Consulting, LLC helps those entities reposition their futures for success. For instance, one of my business clients, Hibbett Sports, wanted to conduct a holiday event for the homeless and underserved but did not know where to start or have the time; D. Williams Consulting LLC was able to create the initiative for them named “Hibbett Holiday Helpers” planned, organized and executed the event which was a huge success and served over 150 people. These types of activities and events is more than work and or volunteerism; it is helping humankind. When I am helping others in any way, my heart smiles; I am paying it forward because we all have received help at one point in life. To summarize, my happiness comes from making a positive impact on the lives of others. Why? Not for accolades, recognition, or rewards but because me pouring into others brings me fulfillment, joy, and serenity.
