Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Jones.
Hi Joshua, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my first business right out of high school. (Back Story) I was a 2x state champion boxer with an undefeated record of 10-0. I thought my only shot in life would come from turning pro… that never happened. I was lost and drifting through life, so decided to go to college and get a job.
Halfway through my first semester, I was failing all my classes and rarely showed up to school. Then, one teacher Mr. Bird gave us a writing assignment he told us “write about what you know” I didn’t do the assignment but it did give me an idea! It was the first time I realized I could still be in the boxing world without being a fighter, from this Gym Junkie LLC was born.
I ran that business and it taught me a lot. I learned how to do my own billing, how to promote on social media, how to deal with clients’ presale and post-sale. It was a great learning experience and I brought what I knew to my brother’s company and now we’re growing in two states!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Most definitely not, If you check my social media you’ll see that I’m a recovering alcoholic. I’m coming up on 2 years sober and I have no plan on moving backward in my life. At one point I was over 300lbs and obviously, my personal training business suffered tremendously my fiancé of five years left me and I was an emotional wreck.
On top of that my only education in business came from YouTube and watching movies. I barely passed high school and I spent 12 years getting my head beat in. But I always wanted better for myself and the people around me, so I kept it moving.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Our roofing company is fast growing in the state of Florida and Iowa. We build the best roofs with customer service that rivals most Hollywood agents. I believe we set ourselves apart by being full service to our customers. I’m most proud to be working and growing with my brother, we grew up in separate households and never got along until a few years ago.
Now we work together in the same office and we’re really growing this, our family is proud of us and that’s all I care about. I want your readers to know if they hire us they will be treated like family! We offer free inspections and our full undivided attention.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking?
I am not a risk-taker, I prefer to plan out my moves and to grow slowly, my brother Justin is fearless. I believe we complement each other well. He comes up with the big ideas I help them find their place and make sure they are implemented properly.
