Today we’d like to introduce you to Keyona Harris.

Hi Keyona, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My goal has always been to start a business, I just was not sure which industry I wanted to get into. But when Covid-19 started I had a lot of free time on my hands. I had time to really think about what direction I wanted to go in.

It hit me one day in May 2020, when I was on Facebook in a cooking group and a young lady posted her cheesecakes that she had been selling. I always liked to bake I was never great at it but still, I tried. From that day, I started experimenting, and then I got good after researching the ingredients that I had to include I came up with my own recipe.

I started passing out samples and getting a lot of great feedback. That is when I knew I wanted to start a cheesecake business. I applied for my business license and officially became Cheesecake Spot LLC on July 16, 2020.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely been challenging. However, as I like to say you are going to have to put in work for anything that is worth it. Having a full-time job and being a mother of three is a challenge along. Being a baker is also time-consuming especially when you have large orders.

Managing a website along with social media accounts and finding the right marketing platform is a constant struggle. I am always working on new ways to perfect my recipes and coming up with new items to add to the menu. Staying relevant is also a constant struggle, there are so many amazing bakers out there that offer some of the same things.

I just have to make sure when I put out a product it has to look good as well as taste good, to keep my customers coming back and attract new customers.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Cheesecake Spot was created to be a one-stop-shop for all your cheesecake needs. When someone hears our name or sees our logo, I want them to automatically know, “Oh, I can go here and get anything from cheesecake to ice cream to satisfy my sweet tooth.”

Not only will they get great quality desserts, however, but they will also experience exceptional customer service from a clean and sanitary place. I put my all in all of my products and I enjoy what I do, these products are definitely made with love. We offer cheesecakes, mini cheesecakes, cheesecake-filled cupcakes, brownies, cookies, stuffed strawberries, stuffed waffle cones/bowls, fried cheesecake bites, cheesecakesicles, shooters, tacos, and a variety of other items. I am proud to say that we pride ourselves on customer satisfaction we want all customers to have cheesecake their way, anytime any day.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Consistency is key, do not give up. You may not make any profit in the beginning but it is okay, it will pay off in the end. The main things you want to concentrate on in your first year is perfecting your craft and building a rapport with your customers. I wish I knew about all the grants and aids for small business owners, I also wish I knew about all the bakery vendors I have recently come in contact with. I tell customers to follow me on social media to also look for me at local pop up shops and festivals as well.
