Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Schroeder.
Hi Lauren, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I am a South Carolina girl through and through. I was raised in Manning, SC, and a graduate of Clemson University. In 2001, I spread my wings and flew to California, where I met my husband and had my three amazing sons. In 2017, we moved the family back to South Carolina and have been so happy!
I have been in the interior design industry since 2003. It actually started as a second career as a need to fuel a passion that I think I secretly knew I had as a child but only realized as an adult. After working in a large Design Center in San Diego, CA as a kitchen and bath designer for a few years, I had my first child. It was the moment I saw his little face that I knew I needed to be my own boss. I immediately opened my business and was off to the races. My journey in this business has evolved each year and I have loved every minute of it. Over the past 17 years, I have had the opportunity to work with private clients as well as colleagues in the industry in a variety of different roles. I have had the pleasure of designing furniture, custom lighting, full turn-key projects as well as consulting. My most recent evolution has taken me into the full architectural side of design, and I have drawn many custom homes from start to finish. It is always such a joy to see a project grow from paper to a finished home where my clients will build their own dreams.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I feel like I have been very blessed in my career. I have always had things fall into place as needed. I tend to just take things in stride and have faith that everything will work out. When I needed time to move to a part-time basis to raise my family, it happened organically. Now that my kids are all teenagers and more independent, I have started back to full-time, and it has been fantastic. I have become very reliant on word-of-mouth advertising and, so far, have been kept steady and busy. I am very lucky.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Live Oak Design and Development?
We are an Architectural/Interior Design and Real Estate Firm. I am the creative side of the business, and my husband, Dave, is a real estate broker with a history and background of finance. (He was a CFO in his past life). We have come to specialize in helping people that are relocating to the Bluffton/Hilton Head area in every aspect of the process. He has helped clients find a property (lot or resale) and I am able to help on the design/build end of the project. We have great relationships with local builders and truly pride ourselves on being a “one-stop-shop” for anyone new to the process of building or relocating. We can handle any project of any size and make life easier for our clients.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
As mentioned before, I feel like I have been very lucky in both life and business. I am a big believer in “you get back what you put into the world.” I try to live my life as kind, loving, and patient towards others, and the world seems to have been very receptive.
