Today we’d like to introduce you to Missy Yost.
Hi Missy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We visited Savannah on a weekend getaway about nine years ago and fell in love with it. We immediately decided that we wanted to relocate to the area as soon as possible. The problem was that we both had full-time jobs and family back in Cincinnati, so picking up and moving on a whim really wasn’t a possibility.
I began researching the area for a potential move and realized that information on the area (for relocation) was really sparse. There was an abundance of information on vacationing here, but as far as relocating it was like looking for a needle in a haystack. We needed to know the best places to look for a home, price points, cost of living, etc. We connected with a Realtor but they only provided us with properties for sale and limited information for relocation which was not what we needed.
When we finally did make the move, we began working in the local real estate market. We (my husband Darren and I) found that what we experienced in trying to find information about the area was more normal than not. We recognized a need for information and were in a position to provide it. This enabled us to help people from all over the United States to relocate to the Greater Savannah and Hilton Head areas.
Fast forward to 2020, when we opened up our YouTube channel. This gave us an even better way to teach people who were considering moving to the area about different communities, cultures, cost of living, schools, etc. Everything you need to know before relocating to a new city.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road was very rocky in the beginning. There was a running joke that everyone and their dog had a real estate license, so standing out in a very large pool was challenging. I wanted to give up many times but Darren continued to be my cheerleader and I pushed through.
From the beginning, I put service over sales. I felt like if I gave 100% and went above and beyond for all of my clients, I could eventually stand out in the crowd. I also became very involved in the community and learned more and more about my new area daily.
Eventually, I became a leader and expert in the communities I serve. This enabled me to overcome the initial obstacles and become one of the trusted few in the real estate industry instead of one in a sea of thousands.

The Yost Group is a husband and wife team of Realtors located in the Greater Savannah and Hilton Head areas. We are currently brokered by EXP Realty and are proud of that connection. We cover the areas from Richmond Hill Georgia to Beaufort South Carolina with a special focus on Hardeeville SC which is located just over the Savannah bridge.
We are different in that we specialize in relocation and new construction opportunities, but we also work with many local buyers and sellers. When relocating in to the area from out of state we utilize technology to make the buying process from afar seamless. Through Facetime or virtual tours, we can provide an experience that is as good as being there. We show them the good and bad of individual properties and even report on smells, We also provide community tours and answer additional questions they may have. If we don’t know the answer we find it for them.
The majority of our clients right now are looking for new construction inactive and amenity-rich communities and are relocating from out of state. We are their boots on the ground while they are finding the perfect community and then remain their eyes and ears once they are under contract. From contract to close we provide updates, video, and pictures of their new home as it is being built. We provide inspections if requested, and work closely with the builders and the sales staff on their behalf while they are living out of state.
We even help them find rental opportunities if they move to the area prior to their home being complete. Our honesty, diligence, and friendship during the building helped ease their worry and allow the building and relocation experience to be less stressful overall.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking?
It was a big risk to quit full-time jobs in corporate America to pursue a dream of living in the South. Then to become entrepreneurs on top of that seemed crazy. But, without risk, there is no reward. I am so happy that we took the leap of faith and risked it all. Because of that, we have been able to grow our business into something that is successful by helping others.
