Exploring Life & Business with Quincy Seymore of Baghead Music Distribution

Today we’d like to introduce you to Quincy Seymore

Hi Quincy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started just kike everyone else wanting to be a rapper. So I did that a while playing in high school. We was rapping in my homeboys Pops church. I mean we had a whole click of us. But I grew up on Seiler in between the numbers. So I dealt with all the streets around me. So my partners Bigg Dogg Fee and KBondatrack started PCE. Paper Chasers Entertainment. They had the city on fire behind Camouflage and PurePain. Back than it was a lot of clicks rapping. Swamphouse, ThirdCoast, Hellaflow. KB saw a need to put the city out and youtube was created. So he started Hoodcertifieddjs. I thought the idea was brilliant so I got behind him amd started learning how tonshoot videos but being more of a networker. I decided to go find more djs to represent the Hoodcertifieddjs brand. I put us on the radio, and added 20 djs to the brand. Kb decided to move on after we shot videos and Cyphers for everyone in the city. So I decided to study and learn more about the business. Thats when I got to the opportunity to be an A&R through SonyRed which is now The Orchard. Worked hard for them but I realize they didn’t care about the artist or the A&Rs. We were underpaid, and the artist were not being treated properly by the industry just not The Orchard. So I created HoodUnited Entertainment a company that was able to take a project rather video , movie or album. I created a team that could do everything. Basically an entertainment coalition the only one of its kind. I started doing consultations working with Dynasty Tv, it helped me learn the otherside of the business. From working with Cameron Levert and pushing radio to do consultations for Chris Pearman Raven Simons Father. Learning more , I studied more and hustled until I had the money to start Baghead Music Distribution! With the help of Deonte Brown my CTO. Many late nights. Me sending him messages at 5am knowing he 4 hours behind us telling him everything from were being hacked to the site crashed. He been there since day 1.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. The first mistake was I named the company Bahead Distribution. I lie to you not my first five business calls were from companies thinking I did cargo Distribution or owned a warehouse. We literally had to rebrand this year.
Though I have one of the best Distribution companies in the world. Even being recognized in London, with a gang of artist out of Africa and other continents. Artist have been scammed so much its hard for them believe that I can offer them so much. Being a black man in this industry on the corporate side comes with a lot of hate. Because I’m going up against giants with more money and more resources. But I survive because I have a passion for people. I understand the struggles of an artist, a dj , a manager and an A&R. With a referral system like no other we are growing. Artist are realizing Baghead Music Distribution is here to stay.

We’ve been impressed with Baghead Music Distribution, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Baghead Distribution, which launched in 2020. The platform has since become a significant force in the industry, offering a more artist-friendly alternative to major labels. Baghead’s mission is to provide musicians with control over their music and higher royalties. With a one of a kind referral system that allows artist to receive a percentage of distribution on behalf of Baghead for any artist they refer. The company’s unique approach combines an old-school boots-to-the-ground strategy with social media promotion, particularly on Instagram and TikTok. With a concentration on teaching artist the business side of the industry. This focus on emerging artists and a tailor-made approach to each release has helped boost visibility and drive streaming numbers. We’re most proud of the fact we educate artist on the business, how to stay relevant and how to create an income.
