Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophie Tompkins.
Hi Sophie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Dreamhouse Studios was founded by four female SCAD graduates that all started their own creative businesses post-grad. After years of working from home and feeling creatively isolated, especially through the pandemic, we decided why not create the collaborative and inspiring work environment we’ve been dreaming of.
So, in 2021, we set out to create an artist workspace in the heart of Savannah’s fast-growing creative hub, The Starland District.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
So far, it’s been pretty smooth sailing. We even had the opportunity to expand our space this year to accommodate a total of 9 resident artists. We’ve found that affordable artist space is in high demand in Savannah, and we are glad to be able to provide some!
We’ve been impressed with Dreamhouse Studios, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Dreamhouse Studios is a female-founded artist workspace in the Starland District of Savannah, GA.
Dreamhouse serves as a home for our resident artists to thrive and work in community with other creative business owners and entrepreneurs. The space also allows our residents to teach and practice their craft with the community through creative workshops and events. Resident artist also has the opportunity to sell goods at the shop below our studio, Starland Strange.
Our collective vision is to be a place where Savannah’s creative community can continue to grow, collaborate, and dream.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
If you have a dream, find others that see and support your vision and are bought in, and GO FOR IT! Whether it’s business partners or collaborative business relationships, we have found that small businesses in Savannah are very supportive of each other!
