Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatiana Cabral Smith.
Hi Tatiana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a first-generation daughter of immigrants who is passionate about helping others.
I graduated with my Master’s in Counseling over a decade ago, since then I have been working in people-serving organizations and non-profits. I’ve gained experience in working with systemic issues and learning barriers that affect the mental health of our communities.
I have decided to open my own private counseling practice in order to better self my clients and better care for myself.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No! Definitely has not been a smooth or predictable road.
I moved from FL to GA soon after graduating and struggled to find a job that would help guide me through the licensure process. I could not get my license without the job and could not get the job without my license. I worked for others and learned a lot about myself for several years until a friend who owned their own practice offered to provide me supervision and pay me to see clients.
They are a Person of Color and made a seat at the table for me. I hope to do the same for others one day!
We’ve been impressed with Más Paz Counseling, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m a bilingual (Spanish and English), first-generation daughter of immigrants.
I recognize the systemic barriers adding to mental health issues for Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), and marginalized communities, and I’ve dedicated my personal practice to expanding access to counseling in every way I can.
I offer individual, couple/relationship, teen, and EMDR counseling. Either via telehealth for anyone in GA or in-person in Savannah.
