Hidden Gems: Meet Cameron Quarterman of Biinos Treats

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cameron Quarterman.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It all began when I was a child. Assisting my grandmother, mother, and aunts within the kitchen has always been a significant task. I passionately took on the culinary world with my passion and molded my culinary and baking skills today. My mother, Eleanor H. Quarterman, played a pivotal role in my cooking and baking encounters, often critiquing my culinary outcomes with foods, desserts, and even drinks I randomly created. She instilled in me to become a chef of some variety. I remember watching cooking shows with hosts such as Gordon Ramsey, and she would offer to pay for local cooking classes. Another key player in my rising culinary career is my aunt Ebony A. Harris. She is known for her famous moist red velvet cupcakes and from scratch made jumbo-sized cinnamon rolls, where the family typically takes precedence. Often, my aunt would invite me into “her” kitchen and allow me to be her “sous chef,” as she would say. Moreover, I would help her with upcoming bake sales she had within her business entity, “Phatgirl Cupcakes.” She coached me on my piping techniques and how to use precise measurements when cooking or baking and taught me some delightful recipes I could also utilize. Last but not least is my Aunt Jamila Harris, also known as Jazzy. My Aunt Jamila showed me the way around the kitchen, but within the catering aspect, that is. Moreover, she is known for her “Jazzy” Soul-Food business entity, “The Jazzy Experience Catering.” She truly lives up to her name. She showed me how to give my guest a fantastic experience when catering. In conclusion, my business is recognized in honor and respect of my late Grandfather and Uncle, Mr. Alexander “Slim” Harris, Jr., and Alexander “Popp” Harris, III.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The beginning to now has been quite a bumpy road. There will be things no one tells you. However, I think now is my time to do so within the culinary field. You will have good days and bad days. Good days consist of good reviews, no hiccups with orders, and being able to sit back and reminisce on those days. On the other hand, those bad days are indeed something. You will have bad reviews, bashing, and a messy formation with orders. Bad days also result in a dirty kitchen and a bad reputation with those who have seen the bashing. But you can’t let the bad deter your passionate drive. Having a heart of steel with any industry is critical. Many challenges I’ve approached, I also conquered and persevered through them. With that said, pursue that business, push through, and disregard those negative connotations associated with entrepreneurship. Life happens!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My business is within the food and beverage industry. I sell a variety of things such as cakes, cookies, soul food plates, and refreshing beverages. I offer catering as well. “Biinos Treats” is known for strawberry crunch cupcakes and cakes, and those are the clients’ favorite! I truly feel my business brings a twist to the community. You never know what to expect! One day I’m selling pasta and cake slices the next. I’m genuinely proud that I stuck to a promise to myself to “never quit.”

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
A favorite childhood memory is being with all my first cousins at my late grandfathers and grandmother’s house as one. We would dance to music, make jokes, and have a nice dinner. Which indeed furthered my passion for culinary. Oh, the laughs we would let out! Simply joyful, and something I wish my niece and nephew could experience.
