Dan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Before I moved to the Savannah area over 7 years ago, I was building these lures for trout, salmon and steelhead in Michigan. I never thought they would have the same impact on our warm water species found here in coastal Georgia.
DFTannheimer Inline Spinners have been extremely effective at catching large bass, crappie, pickerel and bream in both still and moving water applications. We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The struggles I’ve seen mostly stem from lack of advertising effectiveness and brand awareness. We know that everyone will enjoy our product, but getting it out there for everyone to be aware of can be difficult.We found that using social media to advertise may work for distant markets, but the grass roots effort of a local ad campaign can seriously boost exposure to your product. Not all small businesses have the budget for a comprehensive advertising campaign, so they may be left in the dust while the big companies touch more people through their network of marketers and advertising professionals. This is why word of mouth and repeat customers are the backbone of any small business. Small businesses have an obligation to create a better product and deliver better customer service because of this. The journey has had its share of road bumps, but I get so much pleasure from making these lures and having my customers send pictures of all the fish they catch. When you do something you love, the work becomes a hobby, and we all love our hobbies!

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the water! I love to fish both salt and freshwater. Taking my boat out and exploring our rivers and sandbars with my family is my favorite activity in Savannah. We have so many miles of rivers and sounds, all connected for you to explore. We use DFTannheimer Spinners in saltwater, as well. Savannah also has so much to offer in food, culture and lifestyle. I love taking my family downtown on the weekends and finding new restaurants and activities in the city. We are deliberate in supporting our small businesses, and will always choose Savannah and Georgia brands over major competitors. Finally, Savannah is the perfect sized city. Large enough to offer everyone something, but small enough where you will most likely run into multiple folks you know on any given day.
