Today we’d like to introduce you to Eden Browne.
Hi Eden, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Savannah River Honey is a family-owned business located in Effingham County, Georgia. What started as a hobby for Father and Son in 2020, has turned into a beloved and fun business for The Browne Family.
Our honey is produced near the Savannah River along the Georgia & South Carolina line in Clyo & Springfield. It is a mixture of Wildflower, Galberry and Tupelo – combined to bring premium honey to you and your family.
Along with producing Honey, we also specialize in NUC sales and provide top of the line beekeeping equipment to beekeepers around.
Savannah River Honey is excited to become your family’s number one choice for local, raw and unfiltered honey.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. We did not realize how much actually went into beekeeping. When Kolby first started beekeeping, it was just a few bee boxes, ten to be exact. We lost seven that year, which knocked us down to three weak hives. Kolby and his dad, Steve Browne, did extensive research and put a lot of work and money into the bees for the next several months to grow the operation. By the Grace of God and a little bit of luck on their side, they were able to split hives and grow the operation up to 300 hives in five years. I am not sure we would be around if Kolby and Steve didn’t put in as much work as they have, all while both of them have full-time jobs and us growing our own family. Since then, we have completed the buildout of our extraction house that is state certified for us to sell in stores locally and nationally. We had plans to open a beekeeping supply store last year, but things got put on hold when Steve had a few unexpected surgeries. This year, it is looking like we will make that goal of building out the rest of the storefront and opening our store to local beekeepers to find all of their beekeeping supplies.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We specialize in raw honey produced on the Savannah River. We have several items that we carry, Raw Honey, Creamed Honey, Pecan Honey, Walnut Honey and Comb. We are currently working on a hot honey. We are in the process of letting our most trusted customers taste the two different versions. We feel like Savannah River Honey is set apart from any other honey company because of the rich tasting honey and our branding that looks like none other. We feel confident that any consumer would enjoy seeing our brand in their pantry or countertop because of how classy and clean the label is. We are very proud of all our products, but I think we would have to say that our Creamed Honey is probably our number one favorite product, for now!
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
When Kolby and Steve started beekeeping, they found a mentor in the neighborhood for the first few months. Since then, they watch a lot of YouTube Beekeeping videos. Bob Binnie owner of Blue Ridge Honey Company, Duck River Honey out of Tennessee and Kamon Reynolds co-founder of Hive Life and owner of Tennessee’s Bees, just to name a few. Although they have been beekeeping for the past five years, they learn something new just about every day from one of these guys or their own hives.
