Hidden Gems: Meet Jamillah Miller of Four Seasons Apothecary

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamillah Miller.

Hi Jamillah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
In 2016, I became a mom after several miscarriages. As time progressed I transitioned back into corporate with a different mindset. By 2018 I had become bored, overworked and uncomfortable. I was always sick with a cold or a sinus infection and couldn’t figure out why. Truth be told, I had outgrown the corporate space and wanted more. I made my transition out of corporate and the first thing I learned how to make was Elderberry Syrup. My experience with elderberry was one that I thought needed to be shared with my community.

While sharing, I began getting requests to which I obliged but I still didn’t think of myself as a full-fledged business owner, I just wanted to help others. I began to research and read about different natural healing modalities and herbs. I also took herbalism courses in order to expand my knowledge. What started as a way to take care of myself and my family quickly started to progress within our community.

By the end of 2019, I had five products under my belt that I was actively selling. I obtained orders from Facebook, Instagram, via email and I was shipping all throughout the United States. In December of 2019, I decided to name our business Four Seasons Apothecary. We provide natural remedies that are safe for the entire family. I can’t guarantee that I can heal you but what I do know is we offer a wide variety of products that can have you feeling like yourself in a matter of 2-3 business days. We have a website now that list each product with thorough explanations. We believe everyone has an herbalist mentality and our mission is to help others connect to the healer within!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’d like to think of it as a long walk home. It’s never easy but I am grateful for the lessons. I wear many hats and at times it’s tough finding some sort of balance. I’m an herbalist, mom of three, Grandma, wife and the list goes on. One of the toughest things for me is making time for self care. I’ve learned to schedule that time for myself just as I would a meeting or our children’s events/activities. Day to day business pitfalls will continue to happen but I try my best to handle them accordingly. In the health & wellness space, I have to make sure I’m taking care of myself first or I won’t be able to show up as my true authentic self. Burnout is a real thing and it’s something I take very seriously.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Four Seasons Apothecary provides products and services that are safe for the entire family. We are owned by a husband and wife team. Jamillah educates her community on the importance of health & wellness while growing the brand via social media. Jamillah loves nature and forages for most of her medicinal offerings. You can find the husband and wife team participating in local events and farmers markets. I am known in my area as “the elderberry lady” or the lady who just loves plants. Plants are my life and if I’m not talking about healing, I’m talking about plants as they work synergistically. We take pride in educating on our products and services. Typically when people see what I have to offer they want to buy everything. I assist by guiding them to make the appropriate purchase that fits their needs. It’s about getting to know the plant allies and what works best for them. Plant medicine works differently for everyone.

Jamillah is also a level 2 Reiki practitioner which is another healing modality that she plans to add to her business by the end of 2022. I am proud of my customers and their ability to make a choice of natural medicine. I am learning as I grow and I am fortunate to be able to do this work.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?

Setmore is my absolute favorite for scheduling everything. My business mentor referred me to Setmore while sharing how out of control my schedule was. I also use a scheduling app for posting most of the time on social media. I have a two-year-old, a five-year-old and we homeschool everything must be scheduled. I read the four agreements at least twice a year just as a refresher, I love personal development books that offer different perspectives. I also love plant identification books particularly for my bioregion. I have about 10 different podcasts that I listen to sporadically but my current jam is Salt Pepper Ketchup the Podcast!
