Hidden Gems: Meet Jean Durham of Intelligent Leadership Executive Coaching

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jean Durham.

Hi Jean, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I recently retired from 22 years of service in the United States Marine Corps, of which I was provided a multitude of leadership opportunities.

When approaching retirement, I had no idea what I wanted to do for my next career and it took a good few months to figure that out. I worked with a transition coach, who helped me navigate my options, and we came across franchising.

After researching a few that didn’t really ignite any passion in me, he introduced me to Intelligent Leadership Executive Coaching. I was hooked. Their mission, vision, and purpose in helping people improve personally and professionally was something I definitely wanted to be a part of… and here I am!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road.

Transitioning from one career to the next, simultaneously, provided several obstacles along the way. For instance, starting a business with zero business owner experience makes you learn lessons hard and fast. What works, what doesn’t work, who to network with, what groups to belong to, and what to say to prospective clients that resonates.

At the end of the day, though, entrepreneurs take risks and if we’re passionate about what we do, we’ll find our way to success.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Intelligent Leadership Executive Coaching (ILEC) is dedicated to growing strong leaders at every level, building cultures, and driving results. ILEC’s coaching methodology includes a proven philosophy, system, and tools that empower leaders and future leaders to unlock and unleash their potential.

A recent poll found that only 18% of managers demonstrate a talent for managing and mentoring others, a lack of leadership that costs corporations in the U.S. up to $550 billion annually. My purpose is to accelerate the development of these leaders while helping organizations build and sustain strong cultures.

What I’m most proud of is that we have a system that works and our clients benefit from high ROI and real results! It’s measurable and we validate the client’s improvement by involving their stakeholders. Achieving optimal self-awareness within the client is just one phase of the journey, and we can’t do that without the stakeholders.

What sets me apart from other executive coaches is that I’m enthusiastic and passionate about what I do and the impact I know I’ll make. I haven’t been everywhere or done everything, but I have seen some things, and I know what good leadership and a healthy company culture look like.

Any big plans?
Future plans include interacting with as many people as possible.

I love what I do and it’s all about relationships. I want to find out where I can be of best use to help people improve personally and professionally.

Really, I just want people happy and it’s far too often I see people miserable in their careers. Whether it’s the job itself, a horrible boss, or a toxic work environment. I want to help change that.
