Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Huff.
Hi Jennifer, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Early on, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. In fact, I never really considered any other careers. I worked my way through my bachelor’s and master’s degrees, spent 12 years in the classroom, and 5 years as an assistant principal. When my mom became diagnosed with dementia, I needed to find something where the schedule was more flexible, but I didn’t want to lose the opportunity to teach. Real estate seemed like a good fit – all of the teaching skills I learned definitely apply to this role! I can educate first-time buyers throughout the process, I can work with all kinds of people, and there’s always a need to exercise my problem-solving abilities. Plus, I really love being part of one of the biggest events in someone’s life – buying or selling a home is an amazing and sometimes challenging experience. I’m honored that people trust me to help them through the process.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The older I get, the more I learn not to expect that anything ever goes smoothly! Firstly, it was VERY hard to leave teaching. I loved working with students so much and felt like that was my calling. However, I wouldn’t change a thing. It is such a privilege to be able to help my dad in the care of my mom, and family comes above all else. Also, getting started in real estate was a challenge. What a shock when immediately after I got my license, sales didn’t fall right into my lap! It’s hard work, and at the end of every deal, I have to start all over. But it is so rewarding and definitely worth the hustle!
As you know, we’re big fans of Huff Real Estate Group with Fathom Realty. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
Huff Real Estate Group is a small group – myself, a transaction coordinator, and what I like to call my mascot – our rescue dog Leon. In terms of specialties, I like to work with first-time home buyers in particular because it gives me the opportunity to break down a big, scary process into small steps that get us to the closing table. I’m also a big fan of new construction – my husband and I have bought two brand-new homes in our moves around Georgia. Plus, he’s in the new construction industry (so sometimes I have an inside track). I truly believe that communication is the key to everything, and that’s what I center my brand around. Nothing is worse than hearing no news and having a million questions, and no one will respond to you. I promise to be in constant communication with clients, even if there are no updates. It is so important to know that someone is in your corner and always working for you.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
Yearly beach trips to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I can remember sitting on the top floor of the pavilion on the boardwalk, feeling the sea breeze and enjoying ice cream. It just felt like all was right in the world at that moment.
