Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Walker.
Hi Jordan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I moved to Savannah back in 2013 to go to SCAD. I graduated in 2017 with a BFA in Fashion Marketing and Management, but after graduation, I realized I was in love with Savannah and didn’t want to leave. There’s not a huge job market here for my major so I was struggling to find work. I took a break after graduation and worked small jobs here and there but I couldn’t find anything that I actually enjoyed.
I’ve always been interested in the beauty and cosmetic industry and thought to myself, what about esthetics? I found a school in Bluffton, SC to attend and started as soon as I got back from my honeymoon in October 2019. I fell in love even more with this industry! I started my esthetics career while still in school at a dermatology office here in Savannah. I learned so much in the medical field and I’m so glad I started where I did, but I wasn’t in love with that type of environment anymore.
I decided to go off on my own in May 2021 and am so happy that I did! I’m so thankful for everyone who’s helped me along the way. I’ve loved every second of being my own boss at Walker Aesthetics!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No! Becoming my own boss has been the best thing for me, but it isn’t a walk in the park either. I’m my own scheduler, bookkeeper, product buyer, inventory keeper, marketing manager, and everything in between! Working through a pandemic has been a big struggle.
I’m sure every business owner out there will agree with that. I will say marketing has been one of the biggest challenges for me. I’m so terrible with social media and keeping up with the newest algorithm. But, thank gosh for marketing gurus on Instagram and TikTok for sharing their little tidbits to make life a little easier for us small business owners!
