Hidden Gems: Meet Kellie Shepherd of The Cottage Events and Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kellie Shepherd.

Hi Kellie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always loved helping people and creating beautiful things. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been the one in my family, church, and community who puts together weddings, birthday parties, showers, and every kind of get-together. Along the way, I discovered a love for photography, so I took every class I could at my community college and university. I love helping people look and feel their best and capturing the special moments in their lives. But more than anything, I love getting to know the people I meet.

People often ask me, “Why Screven, Georgia?” The answer still feels like a little miracle. I had always loved Georgia, visiting many times, but when my oldest son and his family moved to Kingsland, I started looking at real estate nearby—just out of curiosity. That’s when I found The Cottage for sale. I couldn’t get it out of my head. My husband and I came to see it, and we both knew instantly it was meant for us. We sold our home in Utah, and one month later, we were moving across the country to Georgia. From the very beginning, it felt like coming home.

One of my favorite things we do at The Cottage is our Trees of Light Charity Event. Each year, businesses and families donate decorated trees and wreaths that are displayed and auctioned off. The best part? Every penny raised goes directly to the local charity chosen by the tree’s donor. It’s such a beautiful way to bring the community together, celebrate the season, and give back to causes that matter. Seeing the joy on people’s faces and knowing we’re making a difference makes it one of the highlights of my year. The first time, we were able to help support 9 different local charities.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been easy. I didn’t know anyone here, and starting fresh without a support network was daunting. But it was also a blessing because it pushed me to meet new people and grow in ways I never expected. Owning The Cottage has stretched me more than I thought possible, but my faith has carried me through. I’m grateful every day to my Heavenly Father, who strengthens me and helps me become more than I was yesterday.
