Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Newton.
Hi Nicole, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started photography 24years ago. I took my daughter in for a photo session and ended leaving with pictures and a new career. I worked at PCA(Walmart Portrait Studio) for 5 years as District Manager. Went on to continue my photography career at Sears and Olan Mills for years. And decided if I can do it for everyone else I definitely can do it for myself. Photography was something that grew on me. I love making people smile and creating memories for families that will last them for eternity. I’m not just documenting a face, I’m telling a story through styling poses, and setting the mood and atmosphere. It’s like being the director and the artist. I enjoy making people feel comfortable enough to draw out their emotions and body language. I went from being a studio life of fixed backgrounds, controlled lighting and where everything was in place, to where every location is a new playground and my truck is my new gear room. I get a chance to say yes to projects that vibe with me. No more click-in, clock-out. I shoot now because I choose to. Every project reminds me why I picked up the camera in the first place.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Photography has not been an easy road but I loved every moment. From learning every child is different and there are may techniques you must try to get a little one to smile has been challenging but challenge accepted. Photography can be a lot of fun but it came with its own set of challenges. Overcoming natural vs. artificial, manual focus vs. auto focus, from framing to positioning and learning your ISO settings. Timing, lighting and patience is the key to photography.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most valuable lesson I have learned is to never worry about things that are not in our control.
