Hidden Gems: Meet Phillip Teasley of Philms Creative

Today we’d like to introduce you to Phillip Teasley.

Hi Phillip, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My career in filmmaking sprouted from a mid-degree crisis that I had in college! I was in a Computer Science program at the time, and I had made it two and a half years in before I realized that there was no way I could be a desk job worker forever. After picking up a camera mid-way through college and freelancing my way to my first full-time role as a Videographer at an advertising agency, I can say with confidence that making the leap to switch degrees halfway through college was certainly one of the best decisions I’ve ever made for myself!

Nowadays, commercial work is my bread and butter, but I still love making Wedding films for couples and documentaries! I had the pleasure of filming Dreamville Festival 2022 with Amazon last year, and that sparked my interest for making a music video for a local artist/band, so that is my next short-term goal!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was not at all a smooth road; after switching my degree to Entrepreneurship and Economics, I had to amass some sort of photo/video experience to show people that I have the chops. My biggest struggle early on was trying to find people that needed freelance work but were willing to hire someone with 0 experience. I had one big break which changed everything: I was working a horrible entry-level Photography 9-5 job, and we had an upcoming out-of-the-norm photo shoot at a non-profit organization. Evidently, the Development Director’s son was getting married in a few weeks, and they didn’t have a Videographer in the budget. After chatting and connecting for a little bit, they ended up trusting me enough to capture their Wedding film, and that one film was all I needed to market myself for the future.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My goal with Philms Creative is solely to produce high-quality story-based content, from telling brand stories, to documenting events/people, to producing Wedding videos. My speciality is manipulating light and color to aid in the storytelling process through the medium of video primarily. As a rock climber, I am used to hauling out a lot of gear to remote locations to go climbing, so one of my specialties is doing Video Production/Photography out in remote locations that may be miles away from a parking lot. That aside, I am currently booking Wedding films for 2024, as well as branding videos, social media refresh packages for business, recruitment videos, and documentaries!

What do you like and dislike about the city?
The Georgian-style buildings, Spanish moss, rich history, wonderful food and coffee, and general vibe of Savannah is to die for! The only thing I could nitpick is that I wish the mountains were a little bit closer!

Pricing:

  • 2-shooter Wedding Film Package $3,600
  • Social Media Refresh Package (15 videos) $3,000
