Hidden Gems: Meet Quentin Johnson of Low Country Legends

Today we’d like to introduce you to Quentin Johnson.

Hi Quentin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Quentin Johnson, and in May 2024, I founded Low Country Legends alongside Coach Q’s Sports Academy.

My lacrosse journey began at the age of eight in Johns Creek, a suburb of Atlanta. I played four years of varsity lacrosse at Chattahoochee High School before continuing my athletic career at the collegiate level—first at Emmanuel College and then for three years at Berry College. Lacrosse has remained a central part of my life, shaping not only my athletic pursuits but also my academic path. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Berry College, followed by a Master’s degree in Athletic Training from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

During my time as a student-athlete, my brothers and I launched a lacrosse-based business, creating and selling lacrosse mesh—the netting component of the stick. While the venture began as a way to earn supplemental income during the summers, it evolved into a valuable learning experience. Vending at tournaments, engaging with other businesses, and communicating with customers helped us gain significant insight into entrepreneurship and the business world.

After completing my graduate studies at UTC in 2019, I began a career in the medical field as a Neurophysiologist, while also returning to coach at my alma mater, Chattahoochee High School. It soon became clear that I could not give my full energy to both professions. Ultimately, I made the decision to pursue my passion for coaching and the sport of lacrosse.

Shortly thereafter, I met the founder of Lacrosse The World, which led to an incredible opportunity. On January 1, 2020, I traveled to Manchester, England, where I joined the Rochdale Lacrosse Club as a professional player. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic brought that journey to an early end, and I returned to the United States just three months later.

In May 2020, I decided to follow in my mother’s footsteps and began exploring a career in education, which would also allow me to continue coaching. I soon accepted a teaching position in Bryan County and started teaching 8th-grade science at Richmond Hill Middle School.

Since that time, I have served as a coach for both the middle and high school lacrosse programs at Richmond Hill and currently serve as the Assistant Varsity Coach and Head Junior Varsity Coach at Calvary Day School.

In January 2023, I began working alongside Christian Harris at Low Country Lacrosse Savannah. As the sport continued to grow in the region, I helped implement new programs, including a winter box lacrosse league, speed lacrosse, a summer men’s league, seasonal leagues for middle and high school athletes, and a summer sixes league. I also contributed to organizing two local tournaments. By the spring of 2024, I was offered a full-time position with Low Country Lacrosse, allowing me to fully dedicate myself to the founding of Low Country Legends.

Low Country Legends was created in response to a growing need for skill development among young athletes—not only in lacrosse, but in athletic performance more broadly. Leveraging my background in biomechanics and physiology, I strive to help athletes reach their full potential. In addition to skill development, Low Country Legends hosted its first recruiting showcase in Savannah, giving high school athletes the opportunity to perform in front of collegiate coaches and potentially secure roster spots or scholarships. We take great pride in the strong relationships we have built with college programs throughout the Southeast.

My experiences as a collegiate athlete—being named a team captain, facing and overcoming adversity, and growing as both a player and teammate—were profoundly impactful. I am committed to ensuring that young athletes with similar dreams have the opportunity and support to pursue them.

Looking ahead to summer 2025, Low Country Legends is excited to host our second recruiting showcase, continue elite training programs, and introduce our newest initiative: the Young Gunz skill development training groups.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being so new to the area of Savannah, where everyone knows everyone, I did not have the contacts or the knowledge of the area when I first moved to town. Once I got connected to the lacrosse family in Savannah, and with Christian Harris of Low Country Lacrosse/LowLax, things really started rolling and haven’t stopped yet.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Low Country Legends?

What makes you happy?
Seeing people and players work towards a tough goal and overcome adversity to reach them. I enjoy being someone who can help them in that journey.
