Today we’d like to introduce you to Colleton Coffee.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Just a few years ago, my sister Mandy and I were talking shop – quite literally! Together we own Twig, a lovely boutique in downtown Walterboro, and we were brainstorming how to grow. Our range of products is gorgeously varied – clothing for babies to adults, jewelry, home goods, candles, luxury bath and body products, men’s grooming items, purses and wallets, etc.
One of our favorite ways to think big is to imagine what we would do without any limitations. What products would we carry, what hours would we be open, how would we serve our customers in new and better ways, etc.
We had been discussing a second location, because we have about filled Twig to capacity. Further, we pondered what would be in this potential second location. The same products as Twig? Items for men? Without limitations you can let your imagination run wild!
And then one day as were headed to our favorite morning treat, Bistro 221, for coffee and a meeting, it hit us! What Walterboro needs is a coffee shop! And we’re not talking a Starbucks coffee shop, but a cozy, inviting coffee shop! Where you can meet your friends, do afternoon studies, or just take a few minutes to enjoy your day.
If you’ve ever been to our boutique Twig you will notice it isn’t your typical boutique. Our clothing is current and classy, but not the latest fads. And the same holds true of our decor, purses, and jewelry – we tend to shy away from the latest fad in favor of a classy take on popular trends.
And that’s how we have dreamed about and shaped Colleton Coffee – excellent service, delicious coffee, and a peaceful and inviting environment!
But this isn’t just a coffee shop – we also carry a growing variety of books, coffee mugs, children’s toys and more! You won’t necessarily find the latest releases from the New York Times bestsellers on our shelves, but rather classics, how-tos, intriguing mysteries, and inspiring books on all subjects. I enjoy nothing more than an interesting book – and that is what we work to find to offer you!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of our largest hurdles to overcome has been how to work the schedule! We started out trading our days between Colleton Coffee and Twig, but then we learned that in order to provide the best customer service, we needed someone full time at the coffee shop to learn the regular’s favorites and preferences.
As you know, we’re big fans of Colleton Coffee. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Colleton Coffee you won’t necessarily get the fastest service (though we work our best to make your wait minimal). But rest assured, you will definitely get friendly, top-notch care! We want to help put a spring in your step and be a highlight to your day!
Colleton Coffee is our effort to give back to a community who has given so much to us. Your support, encouragement and friendship through Twig has been such a blessing in our lives, and we want to do something to bless the town in return!
And isn’t that what life should be about? Encouraging, helping, and serving one another?! Inspiring each other to be our best, being a listening ear to those who need it, and encouragement when things look bleak?

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
It’s kind of fascinating how business and life advice can be applied both ways. Listen as people talk to you, consider what they have to say, and as appropriate apply it to your work. Sometimes it is not so much about looking for a mentor, but rather listening to what is presented to you! God has a fascinating way of answering prayer!
