Hi Delaney, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello! My name is Delaney Erks and I am the creator and owner of Delaney Rose Boutique. I am from Ohio but have lived in Savannah since 2019. I originally came to Savannah for college but ended up dropping out once covid hit. I was selling my own illustrations on stickers and shirts at markets around the city. I wanted to do something bigger than that and help solve a real problem every city has.
I absolutely loved Savannah and decided to start my business here. Most cities do not have a lot of plus-size women’s fashion. My main goal was to bring affordable, trendy, and modern fashion to all shapes and sizes. I started with an online store but soon found an awesome brick-and-mortar location. At 20 years old, I opened the doors of Delaney Rose Boutique in July of 2021! The feedback has been great and here we are over a year later!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There were probably a million minor struggles I had along the way, but so does every business. Everything has seemed to work itself out and I have learned and continue to learn so much about owning a business. I opened pretty much in the middle of covid and was worried the city would shut down again and I’d have no customers. Luckily it did not and SCAD came back, but around our opening day, we had a sinkhole directly outside our front door in the road. That took weeks to get fixed and cleared up.
Covid delayed all shipping and it was a nightmare to get my store set up in time for our opening day. There are constantly technological issues with scanners not working, wifi shutting down, printers not connecting, and website errors. Business owners are constantly fixing minor and major issues within their businesses. It’s just part of the job!

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
The main thing that worked well for me was attending local markets in Savannah. This was a great way to showcase my business and products to the community and get my name out there. I have done markets at Moon River Brewery, Hop Atomica, Service Brewing, Perry Lane Hotel, and some other small pop-ups.
I also met tons of other local creators and business owners in the community at these events. It is a great way to promote and get real people to follow your social media while building connections with other entrepreneurs.
