Today we’d like to introduce you to James Reid.
Hi James, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
In 2019, I began a small business building custom furniture and cabinetry. As I started and were looking for ways to promote my business, I saw a huge need for branding, print, and marketing materials for small and medium-sized businesses in our area. With that in mind, I decided to refocus my business to fulfill this need to Richmond Hill. I made it my goal to purchase state-of-the-art machines, the best materials, and industry-standard processes to make sure our products are the same quality as large print shops offer to corporations but with the service you would get from a family-owned business.
Reid’s Custom currently offers laser engraving, laser-cut signage, banners, stickers, wallpaper, wrapping paper, photo printing on substrates such as wood, acrylic, and glass. We even print directly onto t-shirts! Truly living up to our moniker, “We print on anything!” and “Print Big, Shop Small.”
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Though not completely trouble-free, the process of starting this business has been fairly smooth. Our community has embraced our goals and vision of helping other small businesses and has chosen to use our services regularly. The support we have received via word of mouth and social media has allowed us to grow significantly in just a few years.

At Reid’s Custom, we provide print and laser services. Even though we are small, our state-of-the-art equipment, used by industry-leading companies, allows us to provide quality, usually only available to large corporations. We are proud to work one on one to make sure our customers are elated with the finished product.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Seek out other people in the industry prior to making your first moves. Research, Research, Research. And then find the capital to make it happen. Do not be afraid to invest in yourself!… also make sure to purchase your logo in a vector format!
