Today, we’d like to introduce you to Juanita Darns.
Hi Juanita, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
As a young child, I’ve always been full of life curiosity and passion. Eventually, if I’m being honest, I think the wit of my personality began to creep into my world of fashion, and before you knew it, my wardrobe style expanded exponentially! It started out with me just simply being excited to look great & stand out through accessories. I’ve always worn uniforms in grade school. Elementary-High school. I guess you could guess the “dress down” days were my absolute favorites, even if we only did get to switch out khakis for denim. In that world, that was all I needed, plus a little extra accessory, of course.
Moving forward, the more that I grew in age, my sense of style became more ostentatious. By high school, I was receiving compliments about my clothes on the daily. Midway through college, I was introduced to a more in-depth level of adulthood. I relocated and began thinking of new ways to support myself. I tried working for companies (which I still recommend for intermediate entrepreneurs. Even as a transition stone or intertwine. I spent hours planning and thinking of projects I considered to be both accessible and lucrative. Although there are numerous opportunities out there. I quickly discovered you should show a great interest in the idea, product, or service that you’re hoping to offer and peruse in order to yield the most successful results. I’m not saying it’s impossible to excel successfully in business without genuine interest, just that you can for sure notice the differences.
I mention this journey because it’s a significant reminder of how/why Wardrobe Styling holds so much importance to me. My personal passion for fashion allows me to confidently and naturally attract and learn all incoming trends and information where, and ultimately, my business would benefit enormously and entirely. Today, I appreciate all the trials and tribulations I’ve endured overtime creating by business and baby “Jaypparel by @_Jaytaughtyou”, nothing worth having is easy and trust me, THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING!
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t think becoming an entrepreneur is ever a smooth road, haha. From deciding what you’re going to provide to stabilizing a fully functioning company, there are so many different routes. You make so many different decisions that could impact the whole of your business. For me, I struggled initially with just starting.
Deciding to start, making out a plan, and executing seems so much easier until you’re actively working towards something. Of course, a plan could ease some of the tension, but we all know plans don’t always go as seamlessly as we’d hoped. I am obsessed with details and take longer on most things than most wouldn’t. Details are important to me, however I shouldn’t allow it to hinder my progress. On the other hand, I wanted a specific website designer to assist in my design.
It was costing me time and resources, so instead, I picked up a new skill. Networking. Currently, I’m looking for a new graphic web designer; you see, the roads are never too smooth, and there is always a pothole somewhere, ha!
As you know, we’re big fans of Jaypparel by _Jaytaughtyou. What can you tell our readers who might not be as familiar with the brand?
I am the Founder and CEO of Jaypparel by _Jaytaughtyou. In the same breath, I am a full-time Biology Major, set to graduate this year, 2024. Obviously juggling both science and fashion is rigorous at times but I’m so passionate about both I barely notice.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory might be 2nd grade pictures day. I had these big blue dangling hoop earrings, and I wanted to wear them so badly that day. The blue from the earrings complimented my uniform shirt so well that I just knew that my picture wouldn’t have been complete without them.
I asked my father if I could wear them in my pictures but he denied me, he said they were too big for a girl my age. Oh, but when I returned home to give him the pictures from school, there I was, smiling from ear to ear with my blue hoops just dancing in the light. He was upset at first but me, I’ve always loved those pictures & those earrings!
