Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaleb Scroggin.
Hi Kaleb, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
When I was younger, I competed in martial arts on a national and world level. I found Chiropractic through an injury and continued to utilize it to help me function at a high level and reduce injury time. From there, I decided I wanted to be a sports Chiropractor who worked with professional athletes.
I was well on my way towards this goal by my first year of Chiropractic School, utilizing my bachelor’s degree in exercise science and other bodywork courses, I was already working with athletes from the Philadelphia Eagles, Atlanta Falcons, and Philadelphia Phillies. It was in this first year of Chiropractic school that I was introduced to pediatric Chiropractic.
I met a mentor who showed me a recent case where an infant was diagnosed with “failure to thrive” and was about to have a feeding tube inserted to help them gain weight – as they were not able to eat from the breast or a bottle. After this baby’s first gentle adjustment to their neck and jaw, they immediately were able to latch and eat on their own and no longer were going to require the tube.
This visit completely changed that entire family’s life, and I decided right then to change my trajectory to be able to help families in that manner over working with pro athletes.
Once I graduated, I opened my own pediatric and perinatal chiropractic office, Restoration Chiropractic, in Savannah, GA where I planned on helping families in the way that my mentor did. I then received my board certification in pediatrics, as well as a certification as a doula, spinning babies, and a few other relevant roles that will help me to be better able to serve the families I care for.
We just celebrated our office’s 5-year-anniversary and looking back, we have come a long way. I started it with just me, and now we have a team of people and are actively hiring more as we expand.
We have helped pregnant mothers avoid cesarean sections, babies latch and nurse better, constipated children become regular again, and so much more – all by focusing on improving how they function rather than treating the symptoms their body was showing.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There were many struggles that I faced, however, a great family and awesome friends that support me were the reason that we made it through them. I opened my office immediately upon graduating, so money was a huge issue in getting everything with the business set up.
I lived in my mom’s house with my then-girlfriend, my best friend loaned me some startup money, and my girlfriend used her paycheck to help fund our day-to-day all so that I could focus on building the practice by networking, marketing, meetings, and starting to see patients, all while driving for uber at nights.
We had long days and sleepless nights for a while, but then all at once it seemed, everything that we had been working on seemed to click together. We went from not being able to afford rent, to getting married and having a baby within a year without worrying about the financial stress of a baby addition to our family.
A significant challenge was when our first baby was born. He was born 8 weeks early and spent a few weeks in the NICU. This took a huge mental toll on both of us, but at the same time, it allowed me to alter my priorities in business, which led to the business becoming more successful and helping more people.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We help new and soon-to-be new families in maximizing their health and help them navigate the almost endless number of options that can affect them for the rest of their lives.
We do this with pediatric and perinatal chiropractic care and support. Becoming a new family is difficult. Our job is to make their health less of a challenge and give them guidance on how to raise their families how they want with as little stress as possible.
We are the only board-certified pediatric office in our region, which means that we have gone through extensive training in caring for the pregnant and pediatric population.
We specialize in gentle techniques that can help our patients in the best way possible beyond what we are taught in our doctorate program. We help women have the most comfortable pregnancies and births possible along with helping moms and babies recover from the birth process that can be stressful for mom and baby.
We look for the underlying cause of many things that make pregnancy, birth, and infancy more difficult. Latching and feeding challenges, constipation, sleeping issues, body pain, tightness, etc.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
My favorite book is “How to Win Friends and Influence People”. It helps me remember that if you put others first, they will be on your team to help you in your journey toward success.
