Inspiring Conversations with Kareem Bailey of Lovestones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kareem Bailey.

Hi Kareem, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Lovestones was created at the beginning of the pandemic. It was created with just a simple thought in mind, but later I felt I could do the work in bringing it to action. So, one day, I and my little sister went to the middle of the mall and I got a t-shirt printed. I knew it was going to take more than that to start a clothing brand. I came home and started looking on Instagram and other websites and reached out to different manufacturers about how to go about starting a clothing brand. It took me one month to find the right person to obtain the knowledge.

I needed to go to the next level of starting the brand. I was given a manufacturer list for $200.00. As I was trying to figure out what direction I was going to take with the brand, I was working at a warehouse but I knew that was not what I wanted to do, I wanted to create a clothing brand, so I quit the job so I could stay focused. I also sold my Camaro to have extra money. I stepped out on faith and took a risk. At first, my parents did not agree with me on making such a drastic decision such as that, but I knew there was something in store for me if I just continued to strive for reaching that goal.

So from there, I ordered 30 tracksuits to see where it would take me, a couple of weeks later I watched a video where a young man was talking about how if two black men would come together and put their money and knowledge together, they could accomplish whatever they set out to do. They would be able to create a strong brand and it can become bigger in time.

After listening to those words of comfort, I knew I was a true team player, I just had to find the right person that was willing to see my vision and wanted the success as I did, so I thought about it for a while and one person came to mind, and his name is Daqwan Outing, so I called him and told him the vision, he was all in from the beginning. We started equally paying for the tracksuit orders, this was our first project together.

The tracksuits came and we sold out of them in a matter of 2 weeks. At this time I knew it was going to be a hit, we made a huge accomplishment in only two weeks. We have been working hard ever since then trying to build this brand better daily. We have been in 20 pop-up shops, fashion shows, podcasts, talk shows, and many other events. We have a strong passion for giving back to the youth, which we have done in numerous ways.

A few things we have done were supplying high school teams with socks, and t-shirts, and customizing the team uniforms for the little league team we use to play for as kids. We also gave back our time by helping coach the football players, who won a championship.

Recently we went to a concert and met a lot of huge artists and showed them our brand. They loved it and showed support by giving us recognition on social media, this made a great impact on us and our brand. Our future plans are to expand the brand even more and work towards getting a big warehouse to store our product.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been alot of ups and downs during the journey. We also learned from our mistakes and executed them.
