Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Dixon.
Hi Kayla, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Both owners (myself and Stephen) have a background in real estate. Owning laundromats was our long-term plan for retirement. Stephen was looking for a commercial location for our son’s wrestling gym to relocate. When he inquired about renting the location where Bubbly’s is now located, the agent said it was for sale. When viewing it for his client there was a laundromat sign in the window. We saw it as a sign to purchase the building and go ahead and open our laundromat. We completely renovated the building and opened Bubbly’s in 2024, making our long-term plan a reality in the present.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The previous laundromat hadn’t been operational since 1989; we had to construct a full build out to bring everything to current code. We originally were set to open November 2023, with multiple delays our opening date was pushed back to May 2024. But we wanted it to be perfect and wouldn’t settle for anything less.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Bubbly’s Laundromat is a family run operation. We have self-service machines and are currently the only laundromat in Effingham County to offer wash & fold services. The cleanliness and aesthetic design of our laundromat set us apart from other laundromats in the area. We are most proud of our customer service. We have customers drive from all over the county to use our facility. We opened Bubbly’s not only as a legacy for our kids, but the services we offer are services our family and other busy families can benefit from.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
We own two other locations that have not been branded yet, but we are planning to remodel those with the same Bubbly’s style. Also, people are shocked to find these machines clean better and it is quicker to wash your laundry at a laundromat. The machines are much more efficient than those at home.
