Hi Kristen, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey into travel advising started after years of struggling with relocating and re-establishing myself at every duty station as a military spouse. Traditional jobs didn’t fit with our lifestyle and there was little room for promotion. Then, I stumbled upon travel advising, an opportunity that moves with me whenever I go. I’ve always had a passion for travel, and now I have the freedom to work on my terms, something I never had in previous jobs where I was always starting from scratch. Being my own boss allows me to enjoy frequent travel without sacrificing professional growth. Today, I’m grateful to combine my love for travel with the freedom of entrepreneurship, creating unforgettable experiences and empowering others to do the same. I have since started mentoring others on how they could seize this opportunity like I did, and become travel agents themselves.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My transition into travel advising has been quite smooth, thanks to the comprehensive training provided by the host company I’ve partnered with. I’ve also had the privilege of collaborating with a wonderful group of fellow agents who empower and encourage each other. As far as licensing and insurance, the host company allows me to utilize their credentials, which has simplified the process significantly. I did face some initial challenges when starting since I had no business background. With the support from both company resources and my fellow agents, I was able to overcome these obstacles and continue to grow.

Hawai’i holds a special place in my heart, and I specialize in crafting authentic Hawaiian experiences across O’ahu, Kaua’i, Maui Nui, and Big Island.
Another destination close to my heart is Iceland. After spending time exploring the country, from its dramatic black sand beaches to hidden geothermal springs, I’ve developed a strong passion for its wild beauty and unique culture. My on-the-ground experience allows me to create truly personalized Icelandic adventures that go far beyond the guidebooks.

One of my favorite books is Building an Empire by Brian Carruthers. It’s been a powerful guide for both leadership and growing a business with purpose. Also, for podcasts, I love Travel with Rick Steves for inspiration and practical tips. I find it refreshing to hear travel stories that dive into the cultural heart of a destination.
