Today we’d like to introduce you to Latasha Summers.
Hi Latasha, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey into design began long before I formally called myself a designer. I’ve always been drawn to how environments influence emotion — how a space can shift your mood, your confidence, even your clarity. That awareness became more personal after losing my mother, Mattie. Her presence shaped the way I understood warmth, beauty, and order, and honoring her legacy became the foundation for what would eventually become Mattie’s Loft Interiors.
I officially launched the firm with a focus on residential design, helping clients create spaces that felt aligned with their lifestyle and identity. Over time, as I worked on larger-scale projects and commercial environments, I realized I was most energized by spaces that had to perform — hospitality venues, medical spas, lounge environments, and commercial facilities where design influences experience, perception, and business success.
That realization marked a shift.
Today, Mattie’s Loft Interiors operates at the intersection of strategy and atmosphere. My approach is rooted in discernment — studying how a space must function before defining how it should look. What began as a deeply personal venture has evolved into a disciplined, purpose-driven design firm focused on creating transformative environments with lasting impact.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road — and I say that with gratitude.
Building a design firm requires more than creativity. It demands structure, financial discipline, emotional resilience, and the ability to make difficult decisions. In the early stages, I was learning not only how to design at a higher level, but how to operate as a business owner. Pricing correctly, establishing boundaries, refining processes, and understanding my value were all lessons that came through experience.
There were seasons where I questioned whether I was building fast enough or positioning myself correctly. I’ve had projects that stretched me, clients that taught me, and moments that required me to recalibrate my direction entirely.
One of the biggest shifts came when I realized I was evolving beyond residential design alone. Pivoting toward commercial and hospitality work required confidence, clarity, and a willingness to refine my brand identity. Growth is rarely linear — it’s layered.
What I’ve learned is that struggle sharpens discernment. It teaches you to move with intention instead of urgency. And every challenge has strengthened both my process and my leadership.
Today, I’m more grounded, more strategic, and more aligned with the type of environments I am called to design.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Mattie’s Loft Interiors?
Mattie’s Loft Interiors is a boutique design firm specializing in strategic, transformative environments. We design boutique hospitality spaces, upscale lounges, medical spas, commercial facilities, curated short-term rentals, and select private residences for clients who value both aesthetic excellence and structured process.
We are known for creating spaces that feel elevated yet intentional — environments that move well, perform well, and leave a lasting impression. Layouts are designed for flow and performance. Materials are specified for visual impact and longevity. Every detail serves a purpose.
What sets us apart is our disciplined approach to design. We don’t begin with décor — we begin with purpose. Before materials are selected or layouts are finalized, we study how a space must function, who it must serve, and what experience it needs to create. From there, every design decision supports both atmosphere and performance.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud that Mattie’s Loft Interiors is built on principles of integrity, transparency, loyalty, and excellence. We prioritize clear communication, structured timelines, and thoughtful execution. Clients know what to expect, and that builds trust.
I want readers to understand that great design is not decoration — it’s alignment. It influences perception, energy, and experience. Whether residential or commercial, we create spaces that feel intentional, refined, and built to endure.
