Inspiring Conversations with Lazar Oglesby of Honey Specialties

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lazar Oglesby.

Hi Lazar, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We started Honey Catering in 2012 in my hometown Millen Ga. Honey quickly grew into a full service catering company, restaurant, and cheesecake bakery. We are best known for our Cheesecakes.
We opened a second location in Statesboro ga in 2018. Honey is also known for our casseroles, pimento cheese, chicken salad, and other specialties!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Running a small business is never a smooth road, but I love being independent and watching my hard work pay off.
We had to change direction a little after Covid but Covid taught us valuable lessons. I realized it was ok to slow down a little and enjoy life.

As you know, we’re big fans of Honey Specialties . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are known for our hand poured small batch cheesecakes. We ship nationwide with Goldbelly.
We have retail locations in Millen and Statesboro.
We have wholesale cheesecake vendor’s in Augusta, Metter, Baxley, Waynesboro, Springfield, and Vidalia.
We run a full service catering operation. I cater events of 5 people to 500 people.
We are known for putting a Southern spin on your favorite foods.
We love to feature Georgia Grown agriculture products in our best selling cheesecakes. We feature peaches, blueberries, and pecans grown in Georgia in our cheesecakes.

How do you think about luck?
I don’t think luck had a thing to do with what we’ve accomplished. Prayer and hard work are better than luck.
I love making connections and talking with folks and creating an exceptional product.
