Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Hester.
Hi Monica, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was a single Parent Mother that was frustrated with my life. I was going to my neighbors in my apartment asking for milk to be able to feed her dinner. I felt as if I couldn’t be there for my child like I wanted to, financially, psychically and emotionally. My Daughter has a Holiday bday and with me working retail I could never take off of work. A gentleman walked through my line and asked me why was I standing behind a counter? Long of the short, I took a position with his Company working 100% Commission. If I didn’t sell, I didn’t eat. My Family was all mad at me as if I wasted my time in college and my previous work experience. I felt as if this was a new start, not only to build something but to also create a legacy for my Child. After getting some sales experience and being successful at it I started my own Sales office in 2004 helping businesses with their Merchant Processing accounts and helping them increase their bottom lines. I have over 3500 Clients that I manage on a day-to-day basis and I’m able to be the mother that I have always dreamed of. I will not say the struggles were never there, but I will say with all the failures I have endured I have been able to be strong and not give up or give in. At the end of the day, you have to know your ‘why”. You have to know what it looks like at the end of the rainbow, so you don’t let the little things allow you to quit. Now, my goals have increased to doing business nationally and increasing my sales team. I know things will come in the mix, but I know I can overcome them!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely NOT! Nothing in life is smooth. I think when we come to this realization it helps us overcome the struggles. It’s like you start preparing for the struggle before it comes. I remember the weeks when I couldn’t meet my payroll but everyone else in my office got paid. I remember the Family members that told me I was crazy and that I was making terrible decisions. I remember getting my kids off to school and going straight into my office exhausted just to get caught up and picking them up from school, doing homework, cooking dinner and then continuing to work until I fell asleep with my laptop in my lap. This cycle didn’t stop until I could build a budget to add someone to my team to help me. Everyone thinks owning a business is beautiful and glorious. However, what they don’t know is the Faith, diligence and endless nights and weekends you have to give up. It’s hard work struggles come but you have to know what you learned from that struggle and how it will make you better.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
HBS was formed in 2004. We specialize in all things business. Our bread and butter are Merchant Processing and Pos systems. We also help guide Clients to funding solutions. When their banks tell them “NO” we say yes. Therefore, we have to consult them on making some better decisions and helping them understand what their future may look like. What sets us apart from others is our experience and our Partners. We have control and we don’t have to operate in a box like others. I’m most proud when that Client calls me crying about how they were this close to closing their doors, but we were able to provide them some capital and now they are doing better than ever. That makes me proud because I know how it feels to dream and I know how hard it is to keep Faith!

I have moved 3 times for my business, I quit a job to start the business, I have not taken money home myself and had to continue to believe in the business. Every day you wake up to work in your own business is a risk. There could be that 1 day that you never dreamed of that causes you to lose everything. Daily risk.
