I’m Maria del Pilar Lopez, and I call Colombia’s stunning Coffee Axis home. Nestled between mountains, hot springs, and charming towns, it’s a place of true beauty that inspires me daily.
After earning degrees in Industrial Engineering Technology and Business Administration, I embarked on a new adventure and moved to Bluffton, South Carolina. There, I found my passion within the painting industry, honing my skills for many years. In 2012, I decided to take the leap and turn my expertise into a company of my own.
With over 12 years of experience, I’ve transformed countless residential and commercial spaces. My top priority is ensuring exceptional quality and personalized service for every client. At my company, honesty, integrity, and loyalty are the cornerstones of our success.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. When I started my painting company , it was still uncommon to see a woman owning and leading this type of business. I had been working in the painting industry since 2005, so I already understood the craft and the challenges that came with it.
Even though it was intimidating at first, I was lucky to be surrounded by great people who believed in me and guided me through the process of starting my company. They taught me not only how to build a business but also how to connect with new clients and earn their trust.
Like any entrepreneur, I faced struggles — proving myself in a male-dominated field, balancing responsibilities, and learning to manage everything on my own. But each challenge made me stronger, more confident, and more passionate about what I do today.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I never imagined I would end up in the construction industry. My grandfather — whom I never had the chance to meet — was a builder, just like my father, and I believe I inherited that passion. Life, or maybe destiny, led me down this path, even though it wasn’t easy as a single mother starting over in a new country.
When I arrived in the U.S. searching for a better future for myself and my children, I began working as a bookkeeper for painting companies. I understood the administrative side, but not the operational one — so I started from zero, painting alongside my crew to learn every part of the business.
Over time, I fell in love with this work. For me, painting is not just about color — it’s about transformation, about creating change and adding beauty to people’s lives. As Skyline Services grew, my brother joined the company, becoming a key part of our expansion and success. Today, Skyline is more than a business; it’s a family built on teamwork, integrity, and passion for what we do.
