Today we’d like to introduce you to Shay Demone’.
Hi Shay, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hair has always been a passion for me but having children at a young age and stepping into adulthood made me sacrifice my dream to provide for my children. It has always been on my mind and wondering how I would get back started into something years later into something I was truly passionate about. I began to pray and ask God for guidance. I also began studying the law of attraction. Years later my prayers led me back to my passion. Taking a step out on faith has always been a major part of my character. You never know what I am going to do next. Knowing my potential, job after job they just did not seem to work out. I then began to work a consistent job at a local college. After getting comfortable there COVID 19 came about which led to me getting laid off my job and was told I won’t be returning. What do I do know? I knew I couldn’t give up.
Last year, I did a stranger’s hair for advertisement and also for free. I posted my work and the very next day my inbox was full of messages of future clients wanting me to service them. Where do I start? With no hair products, no salon chair & in my home. With the motivation from my boyfriend, he said, “You should turn our living room in a temporary workspace.” I did just that! every day I was doing about 7-8 clients maybe more. I was so determined to keep going. So many people were satisfied, and some weren’t. I kept going and believing and I am now the owner of a local braiding shop right here in Savannah, Ga with an amazing team standing behind me. I have also branched off into braid tours which has also been a success for me. I got to this place by simply believing in myself, and simply being comfortable with the skin I am in. As I continue on this journey, I would love to start showcasing my poetry to help uplift people around me and in this world. My story is everlasting, and this is just the beginning.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Becoming a full-time entrepreneur has not been a smooth road. It has its ups, and it has its downs. One week you can be fully booked, the next week you can be partially booked and one week you won’t have any bookings at all. It takes a lot of consistency and money management so you will still be able to take care the things that are needed especially on your shortcomings. You will definitely get out what you put in.

My business is located in Savannah, Ga. Not too far from Oglethorpe Mall. I own a hair salon. I specialize in stitch braiding and any other braiding trends, I am known for my customer service and making my clients feel welcome and relaxed while being services. I also offer very affordable rates for my services. What sets me apart from others is my time management skills. I am proud of my passion of doing hair and making people enhance their inner beauty. I want readers to know that this is something I enjoy doing and I am thankful for everyone who has stepped foot in my salon and also sat in my chair. I also offer braiding classes and coaching to help others find their way.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is when I was sitting at an elementary award ceremony and I was called to the stage for having the highest accelerated reader goal. Seeing my mother smile and clap was everything to me.
