Life & Work with Amelia Jamerson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amelia Jamerson.

Hi Amelia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Art has been a huge part of my life since I was a little girl. Creating has always made my heart the happiest so it’s something I’ve always pursued. I went to Savannah Arts Academy for high school and SCAD (Advertising) for college. It wasn’t until after college that I began to take my art career more seriously. I knew I wanted to make a living in art so dipped my toes in selling at various markets and craft shows. After the first show, I was hooked. I’d find shows to participate in nearly every weekend locally and anywhere within 8 hours of Savannah. That’s how I got started.

Four years later, I have my own shop in downtown Savannah and it’s an absolute dream come true.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
This is a tough question to ask an optimist and someone who sees the silver lining in most things. Of course, it’s not always an easy road to trek and there’s the unexpected things that pop up and get in the way but it all leads you to where you need to be still. There were times where an art show seemed like a flop, but, then there’d be people I met at that same “bad” show who’d order online and support that way. There will be days where a couple of hours go by without having one visitor and then suddenly it’s packed for the next couple of hours. Everything balances out.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I create whimsical and colorful illustrations and write encouraging messages to go with them. I only draw females but they’re from all walks of life. My signature is placing a heart on their foreheads – this symbolizes “thinking in love” and keep that at your center.

How do you define success?
Success is staying true to yourself and doing what makes you feel best, it’s a bonus to make others smile along the way.
