Hi Audrey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Audrey Smith. The name of my company is Baby Girl Twin Scents LLC and it was founded on the principles of nature. My all-natural candle company specializes in aromatherapy applications to enhance your health and wellness lifestyle.
Using essential oils and chemical-free fragrances to create custom, one-of-a-kind, hand-poured candles, BGTS brings light and love into your home. BGTS was started because due to Covid 19 my job shut down permanently so I had to find a way to become self-sufficient.
I read an article on FB that said candles were a billion-dollar industry and I didn’t believe it. Then, I was on YouTube looking for ideas of what type of business I would want to do and saw a video of a black-owned candle company and the owner was talking about how her candle company went from no sales to now 250k a year annually.
I took both the article and the video as a sign of confirmation from God of what my path should be at that moment and began researching how to run a candle business, filed for the LLC and established Baby Girl Twin Scents, and launched my website on March 27, 2020. I learned how to create a website through Weebly it was very user-friendly and the rest is history.
I do everything from creating and producing new fragrances, pouring the candles, marketing, and advertising, and shipment and fulfillment of orders all while keeping up with seasonal candle trends and stepping out and challenging myself to new candle ideas or recreating other candles ideas the Baby Girl way. My candles emit light without being lit that is what makes my candles stand out. The amount of love and care I put into each candle shows before even lighting the candle you can feel the positive aura I want you to have and feel at all times.
I love to help people through love and light and my business lets me do just that. I literally look forward to working every day. I put on my music and I am in my comfort zone. I also do a lot of giveaways of my candles as tokens of appreciation for people that do positive things for others and themselves. I feel that we as a people should be shown and receive more love and appreciation and I am and will continue doing my part.
Last Christmas, I was able to donate cash and gifts to 25 children who were strangers to help provide a blessing for Christmas and now they have become family. I have to be able to give back to help my people because it brings me my greatest joy. I am honored that I have been an inspiration for others to step out on faith and start a legacy by creating their own businesses and I will continue to uplift, inspire and motivate others to never give up on any dreams or goals you want to be accomplished.
When I was 19, I told my mom I was going to own a business. My mother passed away on March 27, 2010, and 10 years later, I launched my website strategically on her death date to honor her and change that negative day for me into a positive day for me for the future and forever and it was so appropriate that I did during Women’s History Month that I now write my own HERSTORY.
I use positive reinforcement because your mindset is everything. You have to put out positive action if you want positive results and it starts with how you think. When you train your mind to think only positively that is what you will attract. “Good things are coming my way” is what I say every day I wake up after I thank God.
This path has just begun and I’m so excited to be a leader to show other people on my journey and to be able to help others reach and obtain their goals if I have to be the example by leading and using positive reinforcement to guide the way so be it.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In the last 2 years, I definitely have had high and low moments. Low moments of 2-3 months of no sales after selling out in the months before. Also, my Instagram was hacked and I had to start over after building my followers up to 5k. A business is like life.
You have crossroads you encounter and your determination, commitment, confidence, and integrity will have to push you through the hardships. Giving up is not an option. There is a solution to any problem you just have to find it. Having a business made me stronger in my mindset it’s not for everyone.
Most would give up but not if you understand it is a process so you can’t you have to strengthen your mental capacity and step out on faith and like Nike said “Just Do It.”
