Life & Work with Chelsea Nasso of Midtown Savannah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Nasso

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always enjoyed doing hair even growing up at a young age I just found it to be so theraputic. I started to question mine and my mother’s hairdresser Beth at the time how I would go about being able to do hair one day. She told me the process on how I could either go to a hair school or do it while in high school at a vocational school. When I was in 10th grade in High School, my family decided for better academics we would move schools and at that time I saw they had an amazing vocational school there and I knew I immediately wanted to sign up. Once we moved I met my guidance counselor Mrs. Knapp who helped direct me and got me all signed up for the Cosmetology Vocational school half days. I then went for 2 years accumlated my hours needed to graduate and take my state boards where in June 2012 I passed and became a licensed stylist. I begin working immediately behind the chair and was so eager to learn everything and do hair the rest of my life. I worked at 3 different salons in upstate NY that taught me very much that I am forever thankful for. In October of 2018 I then decided to move to Savannah with my husband. I began trying to find the right salon home for me and got my license transferred to GA. I begin working immediately in a salon here in Savannah and quickly learned on how to build my clientele. I was able to further my education in many different topics such as color, cutting, extensions, business and so much more. It was then in May 2021, in that point of my life I needed to make a pivot and focus on my personal well being for myself and family. I opened my own salon in my home July 2021. I had all of my clients follow me which I will forever be greatful for. I then had my son in February 2022 and continued to work at home. We then had my daughter in November 2023. It was then in May 2024, I knew I needed to make another pivot at that point in my career and find the perfect spot to booth rent. This would allow me to still be my own boss to make sure I have the perfect work home life balance. I then found Enchanted Salon, and truly have fallen in love and felt right at home with all of the amazing ladies!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all. When I first moved to Savannah I suffered severe depression because it was such a change for me and I just felt like I needed to try to fit in. The first couple years of living in Savannah I didn’t feel like I could truly be myself and in that time I lost sight of who I truly was. I became someone that I was not and lost sight of my why. I then thought about giving up and not doing hair anymore because of how torn down I felt as a person and not being the best version of myself.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
