Life & Work with Jacquelyn Sabella of Beverly, MA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacquelyn Sabella.

Hi Jacquelyn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Makeup was never something I discovered, It was always in me.

As a little girl, I was a perfectionist. I had an eye for detail before I even knew what that meant. My penmanship had to be neat and streamlined. I loved symmetry, I loved polished- I loved when things looked intentional.

Every holiday season, my dad would take me on the train into Boston. We’d walk through the city and go to Lord & Taylor to buy my mom the iconic Estée Lauder holiday makeup set. It was massive, glamorous and magical- to me, it felt like treasure.

My mom never used it. She would carefully store it away until the blue cream shadows dried out and the mascaras stiffened. I would just sit there and stare at it in awe. I would play with the dried products as if they were brand new. I didn’t care that they were unusable, in my imagination, they were alive.

Every year we repeated the ritual and every year I waited for that moment when the set would quietly become mine.

Makeup felt powerful to me, it felt transformative and important.

In fourth grade, during the Madonna era- I wore red lipstick to school one day. I didn’t see anything wrong with it. I thought I looked normal. I couldn’t understand why I was sent to the bathroom to remove it. To me, it was self-expression. It was art. That moment says everything about who I was becoming.

As a teenager, I obsessed over the perfect black cat eye, and brown lip liner. I practiced until the lines were sharp and symmetrical. I wasn’t just “playing” with makeup- I was studying it.

I remember being in the car with my parents when my dad asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I said, without hesitation, “A makeup artist.” To me, it felt as significant as saying I wanted to be President. It wasn’t small in my mind, it was everything! He never discouraged me.

A turning point came when my sister began dating the twin brother of a makeup artist who was on Bobbi Brown’s beauty team, at the height of the brand’s influence in the cosmetic industry. I shared my passion and my dream with him, and that connection led me to an Account Executive who would later become one of my lifelong mentors and friends.

She gave me an opportunity- and I proved myself.

I wasn’t just strong artistically; I understood people. I understood business. I understood how to create an experience. At a Macy’s grand opening for Bobbi Brown, I performed so well that I was promoted to open Nordstrom markets across the Northeast. I later traveled as a coordinator, attended Bobbi’s intensive boot camps, and worked alongside her at personal appearances and major events. I supported accredited classes with Bobbi Brown at Emerson College, there was so much opportunity.

That training shaped me. It refined my philosophy. Beauty should enhance. It should elevate confidence without overpowering the woman wearing it.

Over the past 25 years, I’ve built a career that I am incredibly proud of- working with high-profile clients, being trusted in celebrity settings, and eventually creating my own luxury bridal business. Every chapter- from retail leadership, celebrity artistry, intensive brand education, has helped me built the foundation of who I am today.

When I knew I wanted to become a mother, I also knew I couldn’t continue traveling, living out of hotels for days so I made the decision to build something of my own.

That was the beginning of Jacquelyn Sabella Makeup.

What started as a leap of faith became a thriving luxury bridal business. Today, I specialize in timeless, polished soft glam. Brides trust me not just for my experience, but for my calm presence, my precision, and my ability to translate their vision into something even more beautiful than they imagined.

I wake up every day knowing I am living the dream that little girl felt on the train into Boston.

Twenty-five years later, I am still in awe of beauty.

Only now, I create it.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it hasn’t been smooth- and I actually believe that’s what makes the journey meaningful.

I’ve navigated market shifts, the transition from working on teams to building my own brand, pricing adjustments, and the vulnerability that comes with putting your name on everything you do. When your name is the brand, every decision feels personal- and that comes with both pride and pressure.

Those challenges forced growth. They strengthened my resilience, deepened my confidence in my value, and shaped how I lead- with both professionalism and heart.

Work–life balance is still something I’m learning. When you’re passionate about what you do, the lines can blur. Passion is a gift, but it also requires boundaries, and that balance is an ongoing process.

I’ve also been incredibly fortunate to have a mentor and trusted support person who has built a remarkable legacy of his own. His guidance, perspective, and belief in me have been invaluable along the way.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a bridal makeup artist and the founder of Jacquelyn Sabella Makeup, specializing in timeless, elevated bridal beauty. My focus is enhancing a woman’s natural features in a way that feels polished, refined, and effortless- never overdone. I’m known for soft glam that photographs beautifully, flawless skin work, and creating a look that still feels like you, just elevated.

With over 25 years in the beauty industry, I bring both artistry and experience to every wedding morning. I’m deeply attuned to skin types, lighting, longevity, and the flow of a timeline- but I’m equally known for my presence. Brides often tell me they feel calm, supported, and confident in my chair. That energy matters just as much as the makeup.

What I’m most proud of is the trust I’ve built and making every person feel their most beautiful. Being invited into such an intimate, emotional space, often surrounded by generations of women is something I never take for granted. My business has grown through referrals, loyalty, and reputation, which speaks volumes.

What sets me apart is the combination of longevity, intuition, and professionalism. I’ve seen trends come and go, but timeless beauty never fades. I don’t just apply makeup- I create an experience that feels organized, elevated, and intentional from the first conversation to the final touch-up.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I truly believe success is never built alone.

The mentor I spoke of earlier has been an incredible source of guidance and perspective. Having someone who has built his own legacy and success has given me clarity, confidence, and long-term vision in my own business. His support has been both grounding and empowering. I’m lucky to call him my friend.

I’m also deeply grateful for the many artists I’ve met throughout my career. This industry can be competitive, but I’ve been fortunate to build genuine relationships rooted in mutual respect. We support one another through referrals, collaborate on weddings, share business advice, and continue sharpening our artistry together.

We train together, refresh our skills, and push each other to evolve. That kind of community keeps you inspired and accountable.

At the end of the day, it’s the collective energy of mentorship, collaboration, and shared growth that has helped shape both my artistry and my business.
