Life & Work with Lindy Peterson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindy Peterson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My passion for photographing people came at a very young age, and by high school, I had my very first canon dslr camera. As life went on, my passion for photography took the back burner as I married, worked, and had three beautiful children. During the beginning of Covid, like many others, I was furloughed for a few months. I was also seven months pregnant with my boy/girl twins at the time. While still furloughed and shortly after giving birth to my beautiful babies, I found myself picking up my camera again. I have always had a need to stay busy. And photography was perfect during this lull. I began taking photos for friends, co-workers until, finally, I had my first real client. Soon after that Focal Point Photography LLC was born. Since the height of Covid, I have been able to take on photography full-time while raising my three beautiful babies. Two years later, I began renovating what is now Exposure Media Group Rental Studio, that services photographers in the surrounding areas.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting this business in the middle of covid hasn’t been easy. Taking care of two newborns, breastfeeding, changing, night wake-ups has had is challenges. Not to mention the lack of daycare services during this time. Juggling a new business in addition to being a mom to three babies is a tough yet rewarding road.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Focal Point Photography LLC specializes in weddings, engagement, families, and portraits. While weddings are my passion, there is a special place in my heart for extended family sessions. I love seeing big beautiful families come together and share special memories. I’m known for capturing those sweet candid moments. I’m always holding up my camera even when you least expect it, creating moments frozen in time that bring you back to a memory that would have been forgotten. It’s like that saying, “Dance like no one is watching.” I encourage you to laugh like no one is holding a camera.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
My favorite thing about being a photographer in Hilton Head is meeting so many new people each year who are vacationing to the island. People are truly my passion. I strive to please and serve others, so making people smile every day is the burst of serotonin I crave! Hilton Head and the surrounding provides some of the most beautiful scenery you could ever ask for. We are lucky to have such a beautiful backdrop to our daily living. I would say the most difficult aspect of this area is the traffic! Without the traffic, this place would be pure heaven.
