Life & Work with Luna Taran of Savannah, GA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luna Taran

Hi Luna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Clarysa Luna Taran. I was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, raised in Singapore, grew up in Hong Kong, and now living in Savannah, Georgia. I graduated with a BFA of Performing Arts Class of 2022 and now pursuing my MFA in Advertising Class of 2026, both at SCAD.

Being a third culture kid has given me a unique perspective on the world. I’ve had the opportunity to immerse myself in different cultures, observe diverse ways of life, and understand how people’s experiences shape who they are. Moving across countries sparked my curiosity about human emotions and the intricacies of cultural identity.

I started my journey as a photographer, drawn to capturing raw emotions and fleeting moments. Over time, my passion for storytelling deepened, and I realized how much I connect with people’s experiences on a deeper level. My journey has shaped me into an empathetic observer of the world, always seeking to understand and express the emotions that define us. In 2018, my media team and I traveled to Korea for our Seoul Fashion Week project to interview models and clients on their brands. Along the way, I was asked to interview one of the models and take photos of them, making me realize a deep understanding of how images and messages can be used to create emotional connections with audiences and inspire people to act. As an artist who has a deep passion for psychology, I blend and develop my skills as a professional by creating my art into powerful images that resonate on an emotional level where I evoke moods and feelings that communicate messages to my viewers. Blending Art and Psychology create both visually and emotionally appealing masterpieces where it influences people’s thoughts and behavior. Working in the media industry has helped me understand how the media can shape our influences and perceptions. As I progressed in my career, I was promoted to the advertising field where I finally realized that my work and passion are deeply connected, and have developed strong interpersonal skills that allowed me to collaborate with creative teams to create impactful campaigns and advertisements.

Overtime, I decided to pursue as a freelance artist which I focused on human nature in my work. With all my effort and dedication, I was thrilled when another media team discovered one of my campaign projects and invited me to a competition. My campaign featured one of my clients who is a refugee in Hong Kong and my goal was to spread awareness about the importance of treating refugees with kindness. I was honored and won the Top 15 Ethnic Minority Young Photographer in Hong Kong which inspired me to continue using my skills to make a difference.

Throughout my journey, I wanted to learn more about human behavior and explore the depth of human emotions which inspired me to pursue a career in acting in Savannah, Georgia, and bringing stories, campaigns, and messages to life. I took the psychological path where I learned about human emotions, nature, and understanding the reaction of humans which connect to the mind, body, and soul. After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performing Arts, I worked as a ghost tour guide at The Savannah Underground where I had the experience of interacting and guiding people of diverse backgrounds. This experience gave me a better perspective of the differences between organizations and individuals.

Right now, I’m on my advertising path and I want to become a creative/art director by creating striking visuals in campaigns and advertisements that also contains spreading awareness and working with brands to promote, reach and target their audience with my art. My diverse background in psychology, photography, and acting will allow me to bring a unique perspective to the advertising industry as everything is all connected. My knowledge of psychology understands human behavior and the factors that influence consumer behavior, while in photography I can create stunning art and have a keen eye for detail and a sense of
visual storytelling, and as an actor, I can connect with humans on an emotional level. These qualifications will allow me
to create advertisements that are visually compelling and emotionally engaging.

I recently began my journey as a content creator because I believe trends are overrated. Instead of following what’s popular, I focus on storytelling and bringing my own unique perspective to the table. In a world where so much content is driven by trends, I want to create something fresh and something that surprises people and goes beyond expectations. It’s not about avoiding trends for the sake of it, but about digging deeper, finding inspiration beyond social media or mainstream culture, and pushing ideas further. Originality comes from exploring what truly resonates with you and understanding why it does.

Back in high school, I was a jazz singer, but anxiety led me to step away from music. That journey, however, brought me to a deeper understanding of human behavior. This year, I found my way back to singing and songwriting, driven by the desire to create music that emotionally connects with people and their experiences. My journey as a singer is continuing, and I’m excited to share my upcoming song, Be Free – Echo Drone ft. C luna taran, coming out soon.

My journey has been shaped by a deep curiosity about people, emotions, and culture. From growing up across different countries to exploring photography, performing arts, and advertising, I’ve always been drawn to storytelling in its many forms. Whether through visual art, content creation, or music, my goal is to create work that resonates—something fresh, meaningful, and emotionally impactful.

I believe in pushing beyond trends, finding inspiration in unexpected places, and crafting original ideas that connect with people on a deeper level. My content isn’t just about following what’s popular; it’s about exploring what truly matters. With my passion for creativity and human connection, I’m excited to keep evolving, telling stories that leave a lasting impression, and inspiring others to think beyond the ordinary.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. Every step of my journey has come with its own struggles, but those challenges have shaped who I am today.

Two years ago, I was diagnosed with BPD, and it has been a difficult journey navigating my emotions and relationships with loved ones. I tend to be highly sensitive, sometimes overly so, which makes communication and connection challenging. I started taking medication to help manage it, and while I initially thought I was improving, I stopped going to therapy last year, believing I could handle things on my own. But I soon realized that I still had so much more to learn. Returning to therapy this year has been a turning point—it’s helped me gain deeper self-awareness and develop healthier ways to navigate my emotions.

Being highly intuitive and empathetic, I’ve always felt things deeply, and while that allows me to connect with people, it has also been a struggle. I’ve had moments where my emotions impacted those around me, and recognizing that has been a big wake-up call. More than anything, I want to be better—not just for myself, but for the people I care about. Learning how to balance my emotions while staying true to who I am is an ongoing journey, but I’m committed to growth, healing, and finding a way to turn my sensitivity into strength.

One of the biggest struggles was navigating my identity as a third culture kid—constantly moving and adapting to different cultures made me question where I truly belonged. But over time, I realized that this experience gave me a unique perspective on the world, allowing me to understand people and emotions on a deeper level.

Another major challenge was overcoming anxiety, especially when it came to performing. In high school, I was a jazz singer, but I stopped due to anxiety, which led me down a path of exploring human behavior instead. It wasn’t easy to step away from something I loved, but it ultimately helped me grow in other ways. Now, coming back to singing and songwriting, I feel more connected to my art than ever before.

When it comes to content creation, one of the biggest struggles is staying true to my vision in a world that prioritizes trends. It’s easy to follow what’s popular, but I want to create something deeper—something that isn’t just trendy but truly meaningful. Finding that balance between originality and audience engagement has been a challenge, but it’s a challenge I’m willing to take on because I believe in the power of fresh, authentic storytelling.

Through all these struggles, I’ve learned resilience, adaptability, the importance of self-awareness and staying true to my creative instincts. The road hasn’t been easy, but every challenge has pushed me to grow, create, and connect in ways I never expected.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a multidisciplinary creative with a passion for storytelling in all its forms. My work spans performing arts, content creation, advertising, photography, and music—all tied together by a deep curiosity about human emotions and cultural perspectives.

I specialize in crafting narratives that go beyond surface-level trends, focusing on originality and emotional depth. Whether it’s through visual storytelling, campaign strategy, or music, my goal is to create work that resonates on a personal level. I believe people connect most with content that feels real, unexpected, and emotionally authentic, and that’s what I strive to bring to everything I do.

I’m most proud of the fact that I’ve stayed true to my vision. It’s easy to follow what’s trending, but I push myself to go further—to create content and campaigns that are not only fresh but meaningful. My content isn’t just about entertainment; it’s about evoking emotions, sparking thought, and leaving a lasting impression.

What sets me apart is my ability to see beyond the obvious. I don’t just pull inspiration from social media or what’s currently popular—I look at the bigger picture, analyze what makes something truly impactful, and dig deeper into what resonates with people. Being a third culture kid has given me a unique perspective, allowing me to blend different influences and cultural nuances into my work.

Above all, I’m driven by the idea that creativity should feel limitless. Whether it’s an ad campaign, a piece of content, or a song, my approach is always the same: tell a story that matters, push boundaries, and create something that people don’t just see or hear, but truly feel.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The most important quality that has shaped my success is empathy. My deep sensitivity to emotions—both my own and those of others—has allowed me to create work that truly resonates with people. Whether in content creation, advertising, or music, I always strive to understand the emotions, experiences, and perspectives of my audience.

Being highly intuitive helps me see beyond the obvious and dig deeper into what makes something meaningful. I don’t just create for the sake of creating; I want my work to connect, to move people, and to leave a lasting impact. This ability to tap into emotions and tell authentic stories is what sets me apart and continues to drive my growth.

Another key characteristic is my commitment to originality. I don’t believe in following trends blindly—I believe in pushing beyond them, finding new angles, and creating something fresh. Staying true to my vision, even when it’s not the easiest path, has been crucial to my journey.

Ultimately, my success comes from a mix of empathy, originality, and persistence—the willingness to keep learning, evolving, and creating work that feels real and deeply human.
