Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Griner.
Hi Morgan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up, I was always the one who had some sort of camera so that I could capture what was happening. Parties, family gatherings, vacations? I was sure to have the camera ready, even if as a middle schooler it meant a disposable camera and dropping it off at Walmart photo center to be developed.
To me, taking photos was about having some way to remember moments that mattered. I’ve always known that big moments matter, but I’ve grown to see how the little moments matter too and I try to capture those as much as I can both for myself and for others.
In 2018, I got my first “real” camera and decided that I would try my hand at photographing families. I posted on Facebook sharing this with friends and luckily enough, I had a few people take me up on the offer. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to take photos of families, weddings, seniors, proms, expecting mothers, and newborns.
Photography is a creative outlet for me. I teach full time, but spend as much time as I am able taking photos. I had my first child in 2020 and my second in March of this year. Becoming a mom has led me to appreciate maternity and newborn sessions more than before.
That’s not to say I don’t enjoy the other sessions because I definitely do, but I can see maternity and newborn photography becoming my niche.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Because this isn’t my full-time job, I’m not able to take on as many sessions as a photographer who does it full-time. That’s probably the biggest struggle, but I’m grateful that I have the weekends and the summers open for sessions.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I photograph families, seniors, weddings, expecting mothers, and newborns. Recently, I’ve noticed how much I enjoy family sessions, particularly those that are maternity or newborn sessions.
I’m proud of how I’ve been able to only market using word of mouth and social media as mediums. Having repeat clients has been amazing.
I’ve been able to take photographs of multiple families who have grown in numbers over the years and I enjoy getting to capture them at different stages in life.
My goal is to give my clients the opportunity to have memories captured without emptying their pockets.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I like the downtown squares which are great locations for sessions. Are they sometimes difficult to get to because of traffic? Sure. Worth it? Yes. I also love Wormsloe historic site!
