Meet Ahmed Tindyebwa of Beyond Travel Africa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ahmed Tindyebwa.

Ahmed, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey started in my high school time, in the last year of my education I lost my school fees and my parents were unable to finance me. I had to go on the African streets to raise some money for my school to cover up the lost tuition. it wasn’t easy to raise SHS 500 into 600,000 for school tuition but it is a blessing that I managed.

As I was working at a chapati stall, I got some bonding time with one of my customers who was in the tours and travel industry and offered to help me out after knowing I had a passion for tourism. He recommended me to Lake Bunyonyi Eco Resort where I could go every weekend for training in the hospitality sector, and on Mondays, I always headed back to school. I used to work in the evening after my school sessions. While at the resort, I got to interact with different tour guides who were bringing in clients for accommodation.

Given that I am born Rwandan but raised in Uganda, different tour guides often approached me for assistance in guiding them through Rwanda and to the airport at the age of 17. As I did this several times, I gained experience and more connections from different tour agencies and I was able to earn a decent living I also purchased a driving permit which enabled me to be a safari guide and a safari driver.

To add on the connections I had acquired, I started guiding tourists from different destinations coming to Uganda ” The Pearl of Africa” and Rwanda “A Land of a Thousand Hills.” After gaining more experience in field guiding, I started up Beyond Travel Africa and Let’s Explore Safaris Ugandan based tour agencies offering different tour packages and holidays packages within East Africa.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been an all smooth road and faced the following challenges;
1. Competition in the industry.
2. A challenge of owning a safari vehicle due to its high costs.
3. Since I started a company, I have had a marketing challenge.
